Whilst sound proofing my boot last weekend, I noticed that hour after hour of having my head stuck in the boot, I was getting high on the petrol fumes. Should it be that strong?

I also notice a strong smell of petrol in the morning. I have tightened the usual screws and connectors but it seems the smell is coming from the back.

And, whilst having some tyres put on the back on Saturday, the n/s inner arch had a wet trail going down it but I wasn't sure if this was the shocker leaking or petrol.

Petrol consumption is the same, but there did sem to be a strange puddle under the n/s silencer the other morning.

Any thoughts people? Is this the dreaded filler neck?

Have you checked the pump in the boot (should be driverside under the black soundproofing.

um....the pump is in the fuel tank.

Are you talking about the place the ABS unit is?

Sorr if im being dim here.

u might want to take out the spare wheel, undo the 4 screws holding on a panel and check the 2 fuel lines there arent leaking.

No, I'm talking about the square panel in the boot help by 4 bolts, back a bit form the ABS. This panel is painted black in mine.

I see how my previous post could have been misleading.

Should it be the same colour as the rest of the boot ???.

I'm starting to think someone has been tampering with my car :o

Thanks guys, I'll check it again this weekend but would that explain the damp bit on the inside of the arch?

Ouch sounds like another filler neck may have bitten the dust. Remove the rear arch liner and then you can see it. Check for corrosion around where the breather pipe attaches near the top.

My neck has gone and when I go round round-a-bouts I can smell the fumes. :(

I got a neck from Andy but the screws into the tank where so rusty they would just fall apart when the screwdriver got any where near them, so I has to get the tank from Andy too :D

The best way to see if you have a leak is to take the petrol cap off when there is a good amount of fuel in. You should get a hiss because its pressurised, if you dont that means the pressure is leaking out somewhere hence a hole.

There was also a nice pile of mud jammed between the tank neck cover and the inner wheel arch, which rusted away the metal. I not have a nice hole about inch and a half wide from my arch to my boot.. But its all getting sorted soon.

Thanks guys.

I do get the hiss but I've just come in from work and noticed a puddle on the ground under where the neck would have been last night.

Oh well. I still haven't spent over 7K in total. I don't mind....yet!

I've got a filler neck if you want it. It's in good condition.

good luck

...and a tank too...

If you are getting a puddle on the ground I would think that is a leak at the bottom of the tank. If there was a hole in the neck or at the top of the tank, the pressure would leak out and it would smell. If there is a leak at the bottom of the tank, petrol would drip out but the tank will remain pressurised.

I might have to take you up on that one Jack. Just need to see when JeffTT can fit me in.
