Sat in my car to drive home tonite and there is a half a foot crack in windscreen - Bollox!

If i claim on my insurance (£50 excess, no claims will not be effected!) does the insurance go up much next year?? I am already paying £900 on my jap import and dont want to see it go any higher..

Autoglass quoted me £430 for a new windscreen!!! havent phoned anyone else yet.

What shall i do? Anyone else have experince on what happens to your insurance premium - is it worth it?

Does anyone have a spare windscreen for a jap NA?

Thank

Barry

No increase in premium if you claim for a windscreen.

Getting a screen from Japan is a time consuming process, I believe that jap cars are blue tint as opposed to UK cars which are bronze, if you have been quoted I bet it's for a UK screen!

My suggestion would be take it out and buy some flying goggles, just think of the mass reduction, although I think this might be outweighed by the increased wind resistance :D

Cheers for the googles idea but i dont think i could afford all the hair gel as an on going cost! :)

Will the UK screen be ok in my car? Will it have the tint across the top to stop that early morning dazzle? (its deadly in milton keynes for some reason..)

I am surprised about the no increase in premium - usually insurance companies suck you dry...

Ask andyz, he may have one.:(

I had one fitted last year and the bugger frooze a week later so i scraped it with ice scraper which put some massive scratches right across drivers view. So I then needed another one. 2 in a week - I was rather fed up.

Autoglass fitted both but could not get a jap windscreen so after waiting about 9 months for each one went for a green tint instead of bronze. They cost about £1000 each i was told.

All are same size but different colours.

All this doesn't seem to have put premium up but can't really tell as added some mods aswell. You still have to tell the insurance though.

I see you are not that far from me..........

I had a spot of rust done on the leading edge of the roofline where it meets the screen.......these guys said that the screen would have to come out and would probably break.

They fitted a new Nissan screen, complete with tint and charged me under £200 for it. This was a couple of years ago.

It's a long shot (as they are a bodywork specialist) but it must be worth a call....'Auto Profile' (Dubstable) 01582-660072

My Z is a a J import and has bronze tint. my windscreen cracked and they put a UK blue tint one in - so the guy said.

My excess was £50 and no insurance increase the next year.

Well i have got it booked for thursday as it has to be a day job for some reason - perhaps ZX glass is difficult to do by night? (pehaps the tint makes it difficult to see it at night :D )

And i was told it would be blue tint (i did not ask...), i dont care as long as it goes in...

Just hope the crack does not get any bigger! or i wont need to take the targa roof panels out :)
