Fuel Filter

Fuel pressure reg (and the other thingy that looks the same)

New injector connectors

New air Filter

Mines ECU

Spark plugs only 6 months old only done 1500 miles PFR6B-11C

Cleaned every connector i could find

The car seems to run really well one minute then crap the next , did a 250 mile run a few weeks ago to Jeffs (zedworld) and it ran like a dream typical , the next day it ran like crap , again yesterday ran fine for 50 miles and this morning would not tickover , good job its not my first car

Any body have any ideas. getting to the point now where i do not want to drive it because of reliability :(

Just reading this, I don't think I have any mesh at all left, if I have it is all torn etc, is this much of a problem?

The mesh plays a vital role - the MAS requires turbulent air in order to measure it properly. If the mesh aint there the flow will be smooth. One trick is to stick some gaffer tape over the inside to create turbulence but I'm not EXCATLY sure where is best...

HTH

CheerZ,

Andy

Cheers Andy, I will look into this. No running probs at the mo, in fact my Z has never gone so well! But will investigate all the same.

Erm if it aint broke don't fix it ;) Chances are the filter you have is causing turbulence instead ;)

Good, was hoping you might say that, getting my Blitz filter on and off is a right pain in the wotsit! Will leave it alone and enjoy the Z running a-ok!

....it'll probably blow up now.

LOL

Oh and in responce to poor running in the damp - YES this will cause problems if moisture gets on the hot wire in the MAS. It works by being a heated wire and measuring how much the air passing over it cools it down (very basically) so if there is moisture in the air this will cool the wire more than air would so screwing up the reading. Do you still have the original splash guard in place???

yep sure do ,,,,,,,daft question perhaps but how do you stop moisture getting in

Only thing I can think of is to try moving the filter around in the space to see where is best - I realise there is bugger all room to play with. Have a look in there to see if there is anywhere the air can get directly to the filter from outside....

well because of the length of the filter 12-14 inches long it drops below one of the centre openings in the bumper so rain and moisture could easily hit it head on this opening is only 6 inches by 2 inches so perhaps i would be better off blocking the opening off or trying to move the filter up

I had exactly the same problem on my previous car (was not Z tho). And it had exact same symptoms, and would be worse in damp/wet conditions. Turned out to be simply new set of HT leads.

I think this post should be in "how do i post? " :D:D

where did you put the HT leads?

i just selotaped em to the top of the engine.. whats the joke!?

hehe ok - i dont know a whole lot about this but assumed something must deliver the current to the sparkers and could be faulty (my case being leads)

/trundles of to WH Smith for his Haynes Book on 300zx :P

HAYNES book on 300ZX?? Now you really are taking the mickey!!!

"selotape" bit made me laugh tho!! :D :D

Are there still deer in the park these days?

Just a thought but.....above the ECU there is a drain from the air conditioning matrix....this can get blocked with crap and then the water drains down on to the top of the ECU.....this could cause your misfire and possibly do more damage...this happened to mine...........might be worth a look to see if the drain is clear....

either way i hope you do find the cause.

There are indeed. I see them most days on my way home from work (in Richmond).

I know this is an old post but I have the same problem as

bagins and my air filter is exactly like he discribed.

I was searching for info on the FPCU when I came uppon this post.

The car feels like it has low fuel pressure.

Does bagins still hang out here or does any1 know if he got it sorted?
