Finally picked up my 92 SWB TT on Friday night, and thought I'd stop drving long enough to write this !

I have the infamous 'gurgling' sound, can anyone tell me if the valves are behind the front or rear removable section in the front arches (ie bumper or wing).

Also, torque in my car seems to tail off at 5500 rpm, but is really strong up to there. Is this normal on a standard Z or do I have a problem. Was going to get a rolling road session anyway, but if its anything obvious, will fix it before then.

Cheers for any help, think it's gonna take a while to get used to working on this car !

My old shed Zed did that... real strong upto 5500rpm and then it felt like it was hitting a kinda torque limiter.

Mind you my old shed zed dont bear talking about frown.gif

The only thing I can say is mine was running safety boost (due to a knacked knock sensor) and I dunno whether this limited power after 5500rpm.. Also try changing the fuel filter, it's cheap and if its clogged with shite then fuel may not be getting into your beast's heart in enough quantity.

This may help with the burbling http://www.twinturbo.net/ttnetfaq/FAQpages/aivrepair.html

- its in their FAQ which is worth printing out and sticking in a big folder or something

Oh and most importantly enjoy your new 2 seater, is it manual??

Only stopped enjoying it because I sped £200 on petrol over the weekend !

Yup, it is manual, think that's why it took so long to find one.

John,

Manual, nice. I know allll aboot waiting for a manual my patient friend smile.gif

On the subject of safety boost, basically your boost gauge should give you some clues. They apparently are not major-reliable but when you floor the car and the turboz spool up and you start heading forwards faster than PC dibble would like, the gauge should go up *past* 7psi, if it doesnt a prob may be occuring for reasons beyond my technical gumption. http://www.twinturbo.net/ttnetfaq/FAQpages/safetyboost.html will talk you through some more stuff...

If you do an ECU diagnostic: http://www.dallas.net/~damonz/tech/diagnostic/diagnostic.html - and it returns code 34, cry.

If it turns out to be the kock sensor then this may help http://zhome.com/ZCMnL/PICS/detonationSensor/detonationSensor.html

But I shouldn't worry mate, I doubt it is these things, I just thought you might like to read through the above. TT.net is an excellent source of techie stuff, even if most of its contributers seem to want to shoot each other. smile.gif

I did a keyword "5500rpm" search on there and it returned loadsa info, have a weed through it and hope it helps.

Glen 'should get our more' Shed Buyer.

As its SWB then I guess it is almost certainly a Jap import (unless it's a US left hooker), in which case the boost gauge will be calibrated in 100mmHg. Therefore, +7 on the gauge indicates ~13.5psi in UK speak.

I believe standard boost is about 9 psi, so theoretically a bog standard car should not see the needle right up the end of the gauge. Mine has been tweaked and the needle smacks on the end-stop! smile.gif

Cheers for the help guys.

Will check out TTnet later, but the sun's shining, so I'm going for a drive with the roof off to see what its like smile.gif
