I need a new engine and gearbox and am looking at buying a scrap Z to change the lot over and maybe get a bit of cash back by selling a few of the other goodies that I don't need.

My only worry is it will be hard to know the exact condition of the engine/box unless it is driveable when I get it, although I will be able to swap bits from my old engine to fix minor stuff.

My Z is a Jap spec auto but the cheapest way to do things looks like getting a manual Z and swapping the lot over. (Rebuilding the auto box to cope with about 400+ bhp is going to cost about £1500 alone)

I am going to do the work with the help of a couple of forum mates and other car nuts I know.

I know a few people have swapped an auto to manual box but have any of you swapped the engine too?

What are the likely problems with doing this?

Will the ECU need changing? Will have one in the donor car anyway.

Will the bits swap OK from UK to import?

Any other stuff that might be a problem? Radiator?

I think I saw someone mention the alternator harness needed changing?

Anyone know where I should be looking to find a good scrap Z?

Hi Chris,

It's me who was asking about the alternator harness.

The manual and auto items are different although could probably be bodged if anyone with good wiring skills could be bothered to spend the time doing it. Much simpler to get a replacement. The Nissan one is £210+vat though and all the s/h ones seem to have been cut to make removing other bits easier :-(

I have found a source if you're stuck but it ain't cheap! You should have the necessary bits if you buy a manual breaker anyway...

Cheers!

Whats the source and Price

I need the bits too

Regards

Surely there are only about 3 wires on the harness from the alternator??

I would have thought most stuff would run to the battery...

A Z couldn't be that simple though!
