Was washing the old thunder today and did the normal trick of standing back in the garage taking a look at the wonderous 99 spec bumper when I saw what I thought was a twig sticking out from underneath. Living out in the sticks, I tried to yank it out, only to realise it was a wire:confused:

Managed to find the other end (it was a single male-female joint) and linked it back up. Thing is that there was nothing non functional on the car.....everything was working and I`m a bit confused as to what this wire does. It was trapped between the rear of the bumper and the front of the undertray about three inches over to the off side of the car.

Do any of you have a clue as to what it might be for?

Did the Temp gauge on the dash (climate control) show you a -88 or was it displaying a temprature?

I had my wire snipped by mistake and my display was -88 and then once reconnected it showed the correct temprature settings (I could fiddle with the numbers again!!)

That's the only thing I can think of in that area you mentioned....

Or I may just be talking out of my backside....:D

Matty.

could be the part of the loom that goes to the parking mast.. except u may not have one fitted.. hence why its not connected up.

Oh my god!!!!

You've just connected the self destruct that blows your Z to bits in 10 seconds!!.............RUN...............:D

Cheers Matty, you have far more idea than me but as I said, everything on the car was working. The acceleration when cold is a little uneven but that`s the right hand side oxygen sensor.

I just cannot work it out. Sidelights were good, fogs good, no erroneous readings or non-working dials. I had to clean road film off the male end so it had been disconnected for some time.

Hope not FT.....I have to use the Zed to get to work tomorrow (friggin Espace ain`t working!)

And.....(`scuse me for being thick here)...what is the parking mast?

Thanks for help guys, I know I`m being neurotic here.

You're gonna think I'm kidding but..

Some Japanese import Z's have this little 'aerial' type thingy in the near side corner of the front bumper, that goes up and down on the button, so shortarse drivers can tell where the front corner of the car is..

No, really, I'm telling the truth!

Actually I could do with one on my car, and I'm not *that* short.. But hey - I know the front of the car is out there... somewhere..

So I thought I'd elaborate ;)

Sorry to go off topic here but that is not the cause of the problem there. The O2 sensors only work under certain conditions, at other times the ecu does NOT use them. They are only used:-

a) Once the engine is at operating temperature

b) Only used under cruise conditions

So in your statement you have actually ruled out the O2s twice ;) Sounds more like either your engine temp sensor OR the fuel temp sensor is the cause of this ;)

HTH

CheerZ,

Andy

Sorry to interrupt - but is there a part of a Zed that DOESN'T have a temp sensor  :D !

Why does the car need to know what temp the fuel is at  ? Not questioning you Mr D, just more and more amazed by the Zed-electrickery every day ;) .

Hope you get it sorted jenbstevieb

Pete :)

Easy, because fuel atomises better when its warmer, so less gets stuck to the inlet tract walls, so more gets to the cylinder.... basically :D

CheerZ,

Andy

And what actually happens is that when the fuel temperature is higher than a predetermined value the ECU turns the P.R.V.R. (Pressure Regulator Vacuum Relief) control solenoid valve ON and raises fuel pressure.
