Wrongly registered jap spec zeds again

Don`t know if you guys remember but last year reported that a certain dealer in B.ham with a gravel drive was selling poor quality zeds and applying registration plates newer than the real age of the cars, in many cases removing evidence of date of manufacture by cutting out labels etc.

Well they are at it again! despite me explaining in detail to the owner that what he was doing was wrong and even giving him a data sheet of information so he would not "innocently" make the same mistake again.

Was asked by a prospective zed owner to check out a cherry red zed at a garage I did not recognise the name of, but all was revealed by the address, this is the same garage who are advertising in the Trader under a different name.

However when I visted the dealer he still has the old name signs up and the same letter heads in his office, it was some time before he recognised me and in that time he dropped himself in it time and time again!

The zed in question is described as J reg. cherry red with a rebuilt engine and sub 50 k miles on £4,500. This car is actually a 1990 and has had some shady repair work done to the near side rear, and has the most ugliest wheels availble fitted.

The engine rebuild was odd on a supposed low mileage car and when I enquired about this he said it was not rebuilt just tuned and serviced? it was a clean looking engine though and would suspect it was not the engine that was fitted originally.

So be aware these guys know exactly what they are doing and will not stop despite my efforts so be aware be very aware.

Prior to the owner clicking who I was he mentioned how if they need engines or gearboxes for a zed they smuggle them in from Japan in the back of other vehicles like people carriers etc, I am aware of another dealer selling zed engines in B.ham for £1K and they are the same nationallity of the dealer in question....Mmmnot been racist but kind of looks fishy eh?

I am quite sad and embarrassed by the poor level of dealers in B.ham, not exactly my home town but close enough to be a concern

Cheers for that Jeff thats well handy to know, i cant belive people have actually got the cheek to do summing like that, some poor person will end up buying a car from them and getting it taken away from them, maybe we should grass em up a!!!! keep up the good work jeff cheers

Marc:)

Sureley it couldnt hurt to have a little whisper in trading standards ear??

Sadly, I can only agree with Jeff here..

Just before I bought my Zed in Preston, I went to birmingham to see what seemed to be a marvellous condition Zed. Import, 50Kmiles, etc..etc..

Dealer said the car had just arrived, with full service history but he had sent it to the translators !?!?! to be converted to english. All seemed good however until the engine was started. Oil pump was obvoiusly buggered as upper hydraulics were noisy unless the engine was being revved...had other suspicions too (coolant had oil droplets in) so asked for an oil and filter change before I went further. Dealer became very very aggressive throwing words like faith and trust at me. Said he didn`t want the car going to a "prick" like me and all but knocked me over in his rush back to the showroom.

No idea what happened to that poor pooly Zed but please, anyone about to buy, get Jeff, Duffman or any other of the guys on the forum who knows their stuff to check it out. I hate to say this but there are some bad Zeds out there and with the amount a very good car costs to run, its worth a few quid in the short term to be secure in the mind that you have a good one.

NB: All things stated in the reply are fact because they happened to me and if anyone feels that they have a grievance they should reply to me via my email address...........

So here I go;

I went there to look at a Z before I bought my last Z (now sold to Keith s!) and test drove a Silver TT import, looked great with SS zorst and 18" alloys, all was good until I went for a test drive.......

........It was a bit jerky when changing gears and when I booted it the most god awful noise came from under the hood and the boost gauge went weird..........the last time I heard that noise was when the turbo 'popped' on my 200SX.........

.......The guy said it was 'normal' for it to sound like this, yeh right I already knew enough about the Z's to know this isn't right at all, so just to confirm what I had already suspected when I got back to the 'gravel drive' I let it idle whilst looking round, the temp gauge went right up (stock gauge!!) so I reckon it was more than just turbo replacement and when revved slightly it puffed out blue smoke..........same thing guy got agressive, told me I knew nothing about Z's (even less than him but I doubt that somehow!)

..........And that was up for 6,500 in A1 condition.........

.........I reckon they think they have got confused on what import grades are, for example - import grade of 5 is superb condition

I reckon they go around buying import grades of A1 and think it means the british standard of A1.........;)

After doing some more digging on these people I have traced them to knowing Sahill Motors (famed for selling me a shed of a Z and making off with my mates Audi 80 worth at the time 4k!, the story is no doubt kept in the archives, search for it!)

They are all related in way or another!!

These people with the gravel drive, Sahill Motors of Nottingham and both have ties with Veilside.co.uk whom claimed to know nothing but sold the Z that I returned to Nmottingham which needed 3k worth of work to make it road worthy before any other things were put right was up for sale in A1 condition only 2 weeks later, they said they knew nothing about Sahill Motors but when I mentioned the Z they said it had been repaired to A1 condition!!

And they still claimed not to know anything about it all...........

Theives and liars all of them and I wish I could find out where exactly the people from Sahill Motors are as they owe me money.......

Don't use any of these to buy your motors and do your homework, I wish I had first time round!!

Matty.

Matty, get in touch with me if you like, i bought my first Z from Mr Sahil in Nottingham, not only did I mansge to track the guy down to his home address, I also got all my money back.

Matty.

If you are buying an import from an importer/dealer you should ask to see a copy of the Japanese de-registration certificate, this will have the date of manufacture for the car, also assuming they purchased the car at auction in Japan you should ask to see the auction data sheet which will have an auction grade for the car.

Also my understanding was that the DVLA required the original de-registration document in order to register the car in the UK and issue a reg number equating to the year of manufacture of the car, i.e. a 1990 car would be allocated a G or H plate.

Was this motor a fair deal?

Maybe the guys who have had good experiences with dealers/importers could highlight them so any new buyer can avoid the junk merchants.

My '95 j-spec came from SMC in Durham and they have always been 'honest and open' to me.

(Don't do many Zeds though).

:)

I agree totally with Jeff about creating a register of good Z's. Birmingham and Nottingham are not he only places with dodgy imports being sold as A1. RAM CITY MOTORS of Derby are selling a handfull of Z's which seem to range from bad to awful.

Can't we get a list of places together warning prospective buyers to either avoid, or at the very least be aware that there have been problem cars purchased from them?

I almost bought a Z from Ram City Motors. I'm glad I found this forum and bought mine from someone on here.

The difference between mine and the ones for sale is astonomical. Even though they are selling for the same amount of money.

No wonder you have the likes of Top Gear scaring people away from Jap Imports! :-)

I also went to Ram to look at Zeds before I got mine.

They were dogs!!

I thought that if this was the standard at this price then I would have to forget my dream car.

Noticed lately that they have dropped their prices by a couple of grand per car, but still dogs!!

It's alleged that the owners of Rams are involved in *cough* dodgy dealings elsewhere in the midlands as well. ;-)

A place to avoid, me thinks.

Graham S, that's a nice colour for a Z! Where abouts are you based? Local to Derby?

No sorry mate. I'm up near Wigan in Lancashire.

Glad you like the colour though.

Must admit, I fell for it straight away.
