Over Filled Autobox

HI ALL THE PREVIOUS OWNERS OF MY Z SILVER AUTO 91 IMPORT HAD OVERFILLED MY AUTOBOX TO THE EXTENT WHERE THE BLOODY OIL LEVEL WAS 2 INCHES ABOVE WHERE THE HIGH LEVEL INDICATOR WHEN HOT STOPS ON THE DIPSTICK SO I HAVE OIL LEAKING, SO I,M HOPING WHEN I DROP THE LEVEL THE OIL WILL STOP FINGERS CROSSED. WOULD THIS HAVE DONE ANY DAMAGE ? CULLY Z:mad:

Mine has been slightly past the high level mark for 2 years. I thought it would go down eventually but it doesnt seem to. I think the leakage you have is probably all the problem you get but dont know for sure. You probably get the leakage because the fluid is actually part way up the dipstick tube and leaking from the joint of tube and box.

You might be able to syphon off the excess by passing a polythene tube, like windscreen washer tubing, down the dipstick tube and sucking up the excess to put your mine at rest.

Oh and dont use upper case cos the language police will say you're shouting!

thanks willie o i have dropped the level now so i,ll take z for a spin this afternoo

n and if symptoms are the same i,ll drop it again cheers cully z:D

Just as an aside - you probably both already know this, but you should check the oil level with the gearbox warmed up to operating temperature, and with the engine running, after running the gear lever through all gears (letting each one engage).

If you check it cold, and with the engine off, it'll always read artificially high.
