luckily... if you can call it that its on my clio.. happened on the m56 this morning...

question is, how do i make sure everything is lined up again when i fit a new belt, i know on the bottom end there are the timing marks, but what about the top end cam/ valves etc?

Cam sprockets have timing aligment marks too! The belt should have the alignment marks painted on it. Line these up with the marks on the sprockets and you'll be fine.

Once you have fitted the cam belt, turn the engine over by hand. At least 2 complete revs of the cam. 4revs of crank. recheck that the timing marks align up. This way if it locks up, theres something wrong somewhere.

Good advice - don't expect the belt marks to line up with the sprocket marks though, just check the timing marks against the backing plate.

Know exactly how ya feeling. My missus had a clio for a while, the shitiest car to work on ever. I know space is tight on a zed but at least Nissan use standard fixings and fasteners! Got that fed up of working on it in the end that we flogged it!!! Would never buy a french car again!
