Hi all, my brother has just got a 300z TT but is having problems getting it to run right. The car has big exhaust, apexi fuel controller and was boosting to just under 1 bar. The boost has now dropped to under 5psi but will sometimes go back up if the ignition is turned off and restarted. After reading some posts we checked the ecu and got code 34. When he first got the car it felt very fast, but the performance now seems to be getting worse every day. Any help would be appreciated :)

code 34 is the detonation sensor circuit open/short circuit

the poor performance is because the car is in safety (standard) boost.

there is a "fix" you can do by soldering in a 1megohm (i think. pls check) resistor in the circuit. do a search to find out the exact details. but really you need to replace the sensor if that cures it.

I have recently had the same problem. DO NOT FIT A RESISTOR. You will never sense detonation. Instead relocate it:

Found someone in US that can get one and harness for $55 including postage to England.

like I said - if it cures it you need to replace the sensor. its a good way of confirming that it is the sensor & not a wiring fault or ECU, less likely i know but still a possibility.

moving the sensor to a different location is just as risky as leaving the resistor in IMO

Yep - relocation (IMHO) IS just as bad as fitting the Resistor. YES the resistor is a good test BUT is definitely not a solution. Although saying that the det sensor only works up to 3500rpm anyway so whether it is as much use as it could be is another question...

Thanks for the advice, at least we now know which direction to go in now :) he's tried every brand of petrol going, octane booster, messed with the fuel controller and was getting more and more frustrated.
