help

tried changing the shoxs on my car yesterday..

WHY IS NOTHING STRAIGHT FORWARD?

started on front, undo bolts at the top, undo bolt at the bottom, prises shock out only to see the hub jump up several inches. upon looking at the hub and seeing that it has moved upward because it is sprung by the anti roll bar, i see that i am already doomed to fail as there is no way on this earth that i will be able to lever the hub down far enough to bolt on the new shock.. however i'll worry about this later as the old shock has a knackered bump stop and a shagged dust cover so new ones must be found..

trip down to halfords, " u got any bump stops? or universal dust covers?"

"errrrr... nope but they have some at halfords in chester"

so i embark on a trip to chester to find that, they dont do dust covers and bumps stops are the powerflex ones and they have to be ordered.. thats no ****in good my car is in bits now, its going dark and i'm going out tonight!!!!!

decides the only thing for it is to put the old shock back on and retry when i have new dust covers and bump stops

Anyone know how much bump stops are from nelsons?

(probably in the region of 358734857340857 quid)

(plus vat)

so after much shouting swearing and wrapping myself around the hub like a baboon and nearly killing myself several times with spring compressors i finally get the old shock back in.

Is there an easy way to get the fookin thing back in... 300zx.org says connect it at the bottom and push down on it... YEAH RIGHT!!!!!

Any more ideas?

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious but are both wheels up in the air? If only one side is up the compression on the other will make the anti roll bar force up the side you are jacking up. That's what anti roll bars do!

If you get the other up so's it is sagging the same then the anti roll bar should pull down the opposite side equally and thats what you want. Even to the extent of getting a mate to step on the opposite side hub to force down the suspension and anti roll bar on the other side too. Hope this makes sense.

If you place a trolley jack under the lower arm and jack it up it should compress the suspension enogh for you to get the top bolts ( or bottom bolts depending on which end you connect first) back in

you could be onto something there matey, i did only have one side jacked up... hmmmm

thanks for the tip
