hello boys!!!

 

Firstly i HAVE done a search, but cannot make any sense of the many results - doh!

 

my first mod will be 3 x gauges in the zed. Quicky learnt that stock cannot be trusted after conflicting conzult redings for temp gauge - worrying.

 

I would like to have temp - oil pressure - boost, preferably mounted on the pillar similiar to MAC1 awesome beast in the rides section with possible voltage reading in anticipation of big sounds next weekend.

 

a. where from

b. electical or mechanical

c. diy or garage jobby.

d. relative ease if diy.

 

in all honesty, not doing it for vanity - need to know what car is doing, but if your gonna bring three extra dials in - wanna make them look pweeety;)

You are 100% correct in saying ,you can't trust the stock gauges!

a where from? Depends on how much you want to spend on them,I chose the Autometer gauges they are true competition ones and are real good value for money at around £50 each.

 

Electric or mechanical?

I went for mechanical boost,mechanical oil pressure,and electric water temp.

 

D relative ease if diy? Yea they are;)

got my autometer gauge & A piller trim with holder from Smithy on this forum. very helpful chappie :D

I went for A-Pillar gauges as well, although only 2 (Boost & EGT - Exhaust Gas Temp). Like Mac1, I think, the A-Pillar came from Smithy/Cybercraft and is a very good product. I think you should email Smithy direct, as Cybercraft is closing, if you decide on this.

 

The choice of Gauges is an interesting one, because of the wide range. As well as the characteristics above, there are a couple more which maybe important to you. 52mm or 60mm diameter, and the colouring. I went for the 52mm Greddy, prefering the slightly smaller sizing and the Greddy meters are a close match to the original Nissan facings - so hopefully they are less conspicuous and match the standard decor much more. Unfortunately they come at a higher cost, but I can recommend Tim at SVS, who is the UK Greddy agent. They are electronic.

 

Your search may have seen an alternative solution? Which is the use of an aftermarket Audi DIN panel to hold 3 x 52mm meters and goes into the empty pocket under the radio (or the other way round). I don't think it is a straight fit, and will need a bit of cutting, gluing and bending? Also Stillen produce an add-on cowling over the vents to hold gauges.

I got my Autometer boost gauge off them.

 

They also do a lot of good custom dials now, they stopped doing them for ages as they had a massive queue but i think it's ok again now.
