I'm off to Italy (Florence actually) for hols at the end of August. Thought I'd take the Z.

I reckon on 2 days each way, so a couple of questions -

1. What route to take and where to stay for the overnight in each direction?

2. What bits on the Z might go snap that I could carry with me and what preparation would be important before going?

Featured Replies

1. Stop at the many petrol stations.

2. Tow a spare Z behind you.

Good luck!

Spare bits eh? Grin!

well before ye go if you havent done these for a while- change or buy spare - fuel filter, air filters, spark plugs, coolant, brake pads, engine oil, spare coolant, brake fluid, spare battery or jump leads/charger!! Take a tool kit.

Generally change as much as possible before going as you dont want to hunt for things while there and take spare fluids just in case of a problem! You wont be able to cater for anything big as it could be anything!!!

Oh yeah, if its tunedfor higher boost - consider taking it back down to stock levels so you dont stress the car at higher altitudes when the air gets a bit scarce!

And leave some space for your luggage LOL!

I drove 2 years ago.

from London Wimbeldon, to ROME.

it was incredible.

i still have route maps and all if youd like.

best way is to go via BRUSSELS - NURBURGRING - FRANKFURT - POST (SWITZERLAND) - VENICE (roads from post to venice are incredible) - MILAN- FLORENCE....

Comming back FLORENCE - MONACO - GENEVA - DIJON - PARIS that makes for most of the best driving roads in Europe.

well worth a trip in the zed.

LMFAO :D

Come on Warren that's not entirely accurate now is it mate?

Tell the nice man what really happened to you!

His engine blew up outside the Colliseum and his car was left in the hands of some dodgy geezers called Nissan in Italy for an eon and he was ripped off from what they originally quoted him. Poor lad! :D

As Mr C says, take a spare Z with you. If when comparing the Z to a GTO you wanna know the difference? At least a GTO is capable of actually doing a GRANDE TOUR unlike a Z!!! ROFL :D

You're all so positive!!! I think I'll fly.

No, I'll get a towbar and pull a trailer full of spares. That will look really cool!

LOL :D

You should be OK as long as you've got Euro breakdown cover. ;)

Look at how many cars can't even complete a F1 Grand Prix or Le Mans 24 hour. :D

he he apart from all that lol, the roads were fantastic and they are really good to drive on, will be doing this again this year (he he unfinished business lmao :D)

I did forget to say, take a spare zed and get road cover assistence (my downfall as it had expired :()

still its fantastic trip.

also while on your way from Milan to Florence, you go through MARANELLO (we saw SHUMI testing there that day, it was awesom)

Sorry mate, didn't mean to put a dark cloud on what happened to you over there!

Was unfortunate to say the least, however, didn't you get some cracking photos with the car against mountains and pukka scenery???

Bl00dy hell that's going back a bit now, over two years ago. You and me hadn't been on here for that long then.

I remember the posts about you going to pick it up from Italy! Ohhhh those were the days! LOL :D

Drove to Monaco from Rosslare(Ireland) then down to Barcelona before heading back through andorra bordeaux and back to the ferry in cherbourg last september. Nice trip. (91 TT)

Got 10 miles from the ferry and the fuel pump went. Missed the ferrry. Returned home to put secong pump in from spare Z. Returned to ferry 2 days later and tried again. Drove the above trip over 2000 miles and arrived home 2 weeks later. Drove to local chippy 2 miles away for food and the main drive shaft nut worked loose taking all my ancillary belts down and shearing the nut head taking power steering/alternator/aircon water pump /fan with it.

Very lucky it didnt happen in europe.

Straight down to south of france .... around cannes or what ever then go across into italy ..... the roads are absoutley unbelivable ........ miles and miles clinging to mountain sides ... done it on bike last year .... centres of tyres where perfect but outsides shagged ...... definately the way to go ...:)

I have driven to Italy several times but not in me Z.

I stop over in Strasburg because I like the town. I then cross into Germany and just go south - over the Gothard Pass.
