SKIM THOSE DISKS Thursday 30th January

While they're still on the car...

A new brake tool that uses a car's own power to skim its front disks has been launched by American Company Brake Tru Inc.

The catchily named "BrakeTru® On-The-Car RotorResurfacer®" pads are new single use tools that allow you to skim the disks in around 30 minutes without removing them from the car.

Ceramic abrasive pads are stuck onto the worn pads and slapped back into the brake callipers. The car is then put in gear and drive applied to give around 3000rpm.

Resurfacing occurs when the brake pedal is applied for two cycles of two-seconds each. The worn brake pads with the RotorResurfacers are then removed and discarded. New brake pads are installed to complete the job.

Brake Tru are very proud of the kit designed for front wheel drive cars. "Now, in less than 30-minutes the DIY can do a front brake job that is superior to that done in professional repair shops using old fashioned brake lathes," explained Pat Grinde, Brake Tru President.

That just leaves the rear disks...

They will de glaze and remove small surface imperfections but will do nothing to repair a damaged disk. The abrasive pads are not fixed and will ride over the high and low areas on the disks as the pistons are pushed back by the error in the disk. Ive turned loads of disks over the years and seen all the faults and often its a reasonable amount of metal that has to be removed to get them running true again, usually disks develop a taper with wear as well and are often thinner at the edge than in the center.

However if you have no brake judder but some light scoring then im sure they will do a job

Wouldnt dream of doing it anway fellas, price of pads and discs aint that much compared to stopping the car in time and saving your life/the car!

Just thought it'd be of interest as I found it quite bizarre!

Only in the good old US of A ehh!!
