Its started to get to that time of year again, Zeds will come out of hibenation, car covers will be removed and paint will gleam! Im planning the first south area meeting of 2022 and as we didnt manage to do this route last year, I've dug it out of the mental filing cabinet and dusted it off!

The route would be Folkestone in Kent to the Ashdown Forest in East Sussex. The route takes in some A roads and B roads. The route is 72 miles and should take around 2.5 hours with a short stop at Dungeness. Ashdown Forest is very nice and great for a picnic, walks and photos.

We will meet at the Harbour Arm car park in folkestone at 10:00 with the aim to get away by 10:30. We will follow the coast line west to Dungeness Nuclear Power station. Then turn inland at Rye and cut across the Kent/Sussex weald to the Ashdown Forest.

Let me know if you are able to come!

Good morning Tom, as I live in Folkestone I think I should be in attendance.

Harbour Arm car park 10 am it is.

Are there any members that could link up along the way if they do not wish to take the trip down to Folkestone?

See you there.

Hi Tom, sorry late reply, just been mad busy. Unfortunately I'm not available. If I was, I would've come along in my daily! Just had tonnes of work done to it, so would be good to get some miles on it but oh well. Next time. Have a great drive though.

Sorry it's taken so long, but the video is finally ready!

I have bought a few GoPros for my road trip in June and wanted to use this trip as a test. A test to see how the GoPros attach to the car and how they perform. A test of how to film a "road movie" and what footage is needed and a test of my editing skills.

I attached the GoPros to the front bumper behind the front number plate, so the mount is hidden and the go pro can only just be seen, but can be removed. The rear was attached to the bit of rear bumper next to the rear number plate bulbs. The gopro can be easily removed, the mount is most hidden and the number plate is not obscured. I found they performed ok; the batteries lasted about 2 hours, as I didnt take spares with me I got all the footage of driving to Folkstone and about 17 minutes of @arthur and I driving along the route. I have since purchased more batteries. The rest of the video/photos was filmed with my Pentax K-r and my Xiaomi 10T phone.

Youtube seems to pixel-ise my video on the driving clips, I'm not sure why. On my master copy on the computer, it is crystal clear. If anyone can suggest how to force youtube to display it better, that would be welcome!

The exhaust noise made me miss mine so much [emoji22]. Great video btw, particularly enjoyed the bit where the X5 overtook twice!

I have absolute zero experience filming but when I watch YouTube, the really clear videos were filmed in 1080p or 4K. Not sure what your gopro films in? It might be that YouTube doesn’t like the file format or there may be a few tricks to uploading. I would contact them direct and ask for advice, hopefully they can then tell you exactly what’s wrong. That would avoid the time wasting of trial n error.

Just remembered JoelyP filmed quite a few YT videos and I remember them being great quality. Worth asking him also.

The GoPro footage is filmed in 1080 at 48fps. The Pentax is 1080 at 30fps and my phone does 1080 at 60fps. I used adobe premier Pro to create and export the video as an .MP4. I will try a different file format next time and see if it makes a difference.

I was a bit sneaky with the sound... The GoPro sound quality from the onboard microphones isn't great. You can hear the original sound on the clip where both cars start up and start driving. At the intro I used pre-recorded sounds from a zed to make the clips sound better... Those observant of you will notice in two of the clips the sound bite changes gear but my car is an auto...??

Interesting, when I checked the output quality when watching the video, it said maximum available was 720p but it automatically selected 360p! Guess it downgraded it when it was uploaded, god knows why or how.  Not sure if that’s because I had naff reception when I played that yesterday or for any other reasons. Hope you manage to sort it and look forward to the next video ?

Funny I did notice the gear changes! I thought either you had stuck the cameras/mics onto Arthur’s car or you had done some clever editing haha.

That's strange because mine says it's playing in 1080, but you can see the level of pixelation on the road especially.
