Hi All,

I'm getting a replacement exhaust system from Top Gear. They are doing the whole system in stainless including front pipes (good price too!). The guy was on about not being able to do the actual downpipes 'cos they have some tubes coming off so they leave these in place and sleeve the new pipes just in front of where the cats used to be.

Are these tubes the AIV connectors?? Can they be safely removed? I'd sooner have the whole thing in stainless if possible.

TIA!

Hello Rob.

Did mine yesterday and wondered the same thing. Craig advised me and I did a search last night, the pipes can just be capped off.

Put some cat replacement pipes on about 3 weeks ago and just removed the extra pipes but i did not cap them and the cars been running fine, i took the pipes back as far as the wheel arches

I removed all the AIV gear under the wheel arches, left the pipes in place as they were too rusted where they meet the exhaust system, and just plugged the pipe ends. All's been ok ever since, still passed it's MOT with the same readings as the previous year with the AIV's in place...

Pipes are there to pump air into cats when you de-accelerate, to stop your cats burning out. If you remove your cats then there is know need for them. They are connected to two pumps under each wing. A good thing to do with them is to pipe them on to your brakes for cooling.
