After i get the old gearbox sorted i was thinking of de-catin!

But i need to know what are really the chances of the turbo seals going? 10%, 50%, 99.999999%?

 

ita '90 uk spec auto - engine rebuild in '99, not sure if the turbos were changed, FULL service history, until it came to me:D ....it got even full'er....hehe

 

And IF the seals do go, will they be beyond repair, i mean could i get away with putting bk in the old cats and salvaging whats left of the turb's??

Turbo seals will go anyway.

Decatting will only speed up the process. I have had mine decatted for 2 months now and all is still clean.

2 years now and still ok 60000miles on turbos.

the problem with turbo seals is that there is no physical "seal" as such. ie there is no rubber seal/o ring that you can replace.

 

the seal is maintained by pressure. removing the cats lowers the back pressure which allows the oil to leak past the turbine.

Ive got £1500 which im about to spend on a re-spray, but im thinkin if the decatting allows, the oil leak pass, as paul C discussed, i wont be able to afford new turbos?

 

most probably go for decatting after the respray!

so if de-cat pipes were fitted and the "seals" leaked would it then be possible to fit the original pipes back on and he ends up where he started (if that makes sense)??????????????????

If its the pre cats that you want to gutt the jap model turbines dont have pre cats! get your self a pair from japan!
