Reading some posts - or just living in the 21st Century - sometimes it seems that every business there is is trying to rip us off.

But I just found out that there are official people whose job it is to help us out. They're called Trading Standards and to find your local one just look at http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/

I'm having a barney with a third-party who did some work on my ZX. They're saying it's someone else's fault.

So I called my Trading Standards people and they told me what to do.

There is such a thing as "Breach of Contract". Many things can cause this - one of which is "failing to use reasonable care and skill".

And - if you pay with a credit card - the credit card company is as liable as the company who screwed up.

For finer points on this, don't ask me. I'm no lawyer. But if you have a problem, call your Trading Standards people.

It helps to have written and photographic evidence. Take pics before and after and tell your supplier in writing what you want.

Thanks for the advice Gio.

In a world where more and more company's seem to be doing shoddy and un-satisfactory work, its good to know you're rights and to make that bit of effort to find out.

Maybe if we all did, then this would eventually push up the standards in general.

Nice one Gio.

From what I've heard, it's very difficult (& a pain in th ar$e) to get recourse to a refund/correction of bad work when a garage does something dodgy if they don't want to accept liability.

It's better to find an honest garage (do they exist ??!) and keep going back there - they should then look after you for future work.

.......erm, I'm sure no-one goes to a dodgy garage/mechanic on purpose!!! but thanks for the advice!! lol only joking :D

Yes, but you could use several garages, thinking that they are convenient at the time.

You're right-if you find a good one then stick to it, don't think there are that many around!!
