91 Uk Spec Auto 101K has been leaking what seemed to me a silicone type of substance. fairly clear but very viscous from center rear of the car over the last 2 days

Thought it may have been a rear bushing as I had just done my front ones recently which seemed to seep the same type of substance.

Dropped to mechanic who confirmed it was the rear difff seal had gone.

Anyone know where to get these and how much.

I would have thought the Diff oil would have been much darker??

Help appreciated

Does anyone know if courtesy stock rear diff seals?????

Can they be got easier in the UK

Roy

Diff oil is usually nice and clean and clear, same with gear box oil. If it was murky it would be a bad sign.

I think you can get a seal OK from Nissan UK I would not expect that part to be costly and it should be an easyish replacement

Replacement won't be TOO difficult. Remove exhaust from cat back. Drop prop (undo centre mount then 4 bolts to diff). Then remove the centre nut from the diff drive flange, remove the flange and the seal is there. I'd get the part from Nissan UK tbh - can't be that expensive...

DONT OVER TIGHTEN THE NUT!!!!!

or you'll put the pre-load out & need a new diff!!

its best to mark the nut & tighten to the same position if you dont have any way of checking pre-load.
