After removing the air ducts from my car, in preparation for a good clean, I was left thinking that I must have missed something as they looked really ineffective. I took a look at the drawing of the system and it really does look pointless. Does the air ducting really just “draw air in” from the top of the front quarter panel? If I’m using a cone filter is there any point in retaining the ducting?

The air ducts draw air in from inside the front wings. The ducting in your picture connects to items 18 and 21

in the picture below. You can remove the ducting parts as you have aftermarket.
