In my quest for a 10A supply for my subwoofer (still looking here if you can help), I've had a look at the footwell fuses and a few qs crossed my mind:

I looked at the fuse translation here and found a US one:

  1. There's a 10A Audio 1 and a 20A Audio 2. Some Zeds had powered rear amp and some had Bose power amps. The convertible doesn't have rear speakers so I presume no rear amp. What do these 2 feed and what's the difference?
  2. There's no rear wiper so what's that 10A for?
  3. There are 2 x 20A Rear Defogger. Not on the convertible, there ain't so what are these for - the heated mirrors perhaps?
  4. 7.5A Passive Belt - eh?

Be interesting to know. Thanks.

Audio 2 is the permanent feed to the stereo memmory

Audio 1 is the switched feed to power the stereo

Is passive belt to do with seatbelt tensinoers, or seatbelt plugged in sensors??

The uk cover only shows the one defoggerr fuse (left one) and a blank hole. So suggest the deffoger is the wing mirrors seeing as its the same switch on the pod

I wonder if they used the rear wiper fuse / feed for the boot lock solenoids ???

Back to the origonal question, i would run a new fused feed from the battery in 6mm2 cable as nothing in the wiring loom is going to have fat wires and voltage drop is a problem at 12v and high current demand in thin cables

Thanks ianl. I guess it's only you and me bothered about convertible fuses :) And thanks for the suggestion about the s/w feed.

Where are you going to put the s/w?

On the parcel shelf. Can't see any other option. I have a loom for it (power, earth, on/off, pre-out L and R) which I took out of my first Z where it was in the boot. So plan is to run that under trim from behind the stereo as before. Still pondering:

  1. Is there an easy way to get under the parcel shelf - I am thinking about some tie-down straps to release the s/w and store it on the boot for security - also stop it slamming through the windscreen (velcro atm).
  2. Also is the cream trim from the shelf down to the centre console removable - I mean anything is "removable" but without damage and being able to put it back easily? Was thinking about hiding the loom run under there if so.

As your sub draws 10A max (the approx equivalent to the headlights being on) you could take the +12V off the powered

seat feed which comes up under the driver's seat (white wire) The circuit is constant +12v and fused with a 30A fuse and

circuit breaker. Circuit diagrams below:

Normally I would take the +12V feed directly from the battery, but in your case the sub is low power. If your sub blows/trips

the circuit the seats and windows will stop working. Put an in-line 10A fuse in the spur to the sub.

Thanks for that (and the diags), will have a look. The old feed was from ignition. I've been wading through the manual looking for electrical info on convertible but it's a long read :) According to both the parts fiche and the manual, the convertible could have rear speakers and also the Bose system. Had a look at mine and can't see any mounts/grilles for rear speakers.

i cant think where you would have rear speakers, ive done mine by removing the parcel shelf and replacing it with a slightly higher one with speakers set in it

to remove the trim you want, pop out the trim to either side of the parcel shelf, this reveals 4 bolts holding down the parcel shelf. then its just the self tappers under plastic flip covers down the sides of that centre trim
