I'm singing in the rain......fishtailing in the rain....

Has a fun drive into work this evening , raining cats and dogs etc ,

took a left into a steep country lane , booted the beast a bit..

hey presto did half a donut about turn!

Its gonna take me a while to learn how and when to give it some stick!

Anyone else got any (more interesting) tales of fish?

Get yourself RaceLogic traction control!!

It will save you from not only a red face but also from expensive repair bills when you get it all wrong in the wet and end up in someones front garden!

Should cost around 575 pounds but worth every penny.

Trust me when I say it's a life saver.

Matty.

What a Z??? Unstable in slightly wet conditions??? You must be driving it wrong! ROFLMFAO :D

Don't ask me about it! ;)

I love hedges, I love hedges...Ohhhh look there goes my Mrs in my Kirk Cossie while I'm spinning in the rain, just spinning in the rain...what a glorious feeling knowing the hedges will save me again...I'm just spinning in the rain! :D :D :D

RaceLogic traction control , sounds like a solution !, have to add that to the ever increasing list :)

Cheers

Timmy Turbo The Spinning Top

Toppy Turbo...........

Remember those spinning tops with the different coloured sections with the push down thingy on the top that made the whole thing spin round??

Or was I the only one with such a spinning top???

Back on topic now, buy TRACTION CONTROL........ :D

Traction Control didn't help me in that episode Matman, however, having the stock wheels on the wrong way round back to front and left to right might have had a tad to do with it! :D

No wonder Q (a.k.a. AndyP) had so much trouble configuring the TC. LMFAO :D

Q (a.k.a. The Wheel Police) did have a grumble at your wheels being on the wrong way round if I remember correctly!!

And he had a pop at me at Billing (the year before, when I made it!!) about mine being upside down............;)

Matty.

Q is most adept at spotting the unspottable and an ace all rounder Matman. I salute the Q man for sorting my leccy window out where others failed miserably.

;)

... and Ajay too ! LOL :D

Timmy 'Boy' Wonder..........I don't think it should be Q, should be Z......obvious really.

:p :p

Matty.

Well at least when you buy your next Z Matman you will be able to spot the wheels being on the wrong way round!

I don't have that problem anymore, well I could fit my weather girls sized rears on the Mr Muscle sized fronts but I would have thought that was against Einsteins laws of relativity! :D

LOL :D

I love this off topic banter, makes me remember the days when me and the Matman used to spend the whole working day bantering about what we had for our lunch! Class! :D

Oh by the way, good luck Steve.

Bernard Matthews admirer mate, Wild Turkey, or is it coz of the whiskey???

Anyway mate, he's gone off and swapped his Z for a Bimmer M3...fair play...but you had the ultimate M-Tech Matman and got shot.

Oh well, hopefully the Stevie boy wonder will be back with a Z. :D

Especially when he realises that owning a Z is a loving relationship and owning a Bimmer is a lonely afair! ROFL :D

ive ended up sideways a few times, mostly by choice,

only time not by choice was when trying to get out of the way of an ambulance in 2nd gear around a roundabout, ended up at a weird angle but corrected instantly.

you will find your zed will loose it in the wet but its easy to correct.

and it is possible to take it round a roundabout at over 40mph in the wet, ;)

erm... you guys are starting to worry me here.

I'm swapping my scoob for a Z in the middle of winter?? Not the smartest thing i've ever done but still looking forward to it.

Just one question. How does the Z compare to the S13 200sx in the wet? worse/better?? I had an S13 and it wasn't all that bad...just had to be carefull at times.

Isnt Johnny at Grasshopper sorting a group buy on the Racelogic TC at the mo??? Vaguely remember something about it somewhere in the murk that is my whisky fumed brain!

Nick

I pretend to work, they pretend to pay me!

My Zx came with a traction control as standard, it is a 2 part device which consists of a throtle pedal and a brain. Whan used in conjuction with each other there is no loss of traction as the power is reduced to an appropriate amount prior to getting into trouble.

I am surprised there are not more Z's with this option.

hahahahaha

Or, as we used to say in the bike racing days "the throttle works both ways" :)

I reckon a 300 is a bit worse than a 200SX because it is heavier and has more power, but it probably corrects itself better as ppl say.

Exiting a roundabout in the pouring rain at about 30mph I hit a huge lake of diesel and lost the back end big styleeee. Managed to correct it 3 times, but just as I was staightening up from the last wriggle of the fish-tail, a Mondeo in the opposite lane was line-hugging and I clipped it. Chopped my poor bloody Z in half!  :(

Got another one now and although it is tail happy at times I've managed to control all other wriggly moments. They are easy to correct, but our roads are so congested that chances are you won't have room/time.

It's fun having a bad ass 'killer' car!:D

I find that when it gets quiet on the roads and its nice and wet - thats the best time to practise breaking traction to find the limit and to learn how the car starts to react at the limit of grip - I have to admit - its far more invovling and fun to drive without TC and still make good progress in the WET than just boot it all the time and hope the elctronics keep you on the grey stuff.

By the way - I dont have TC - Never will either. Check with your insurance co before you buy and fit it as some will refuse to insure you because of what it lets you do with the car.

Biggest tip - get your speed right before you get to the corner and dont boot it half way round - that way you will drift the car rather than spinning it big time - 300 bhp and wet road = big sideways motion from rear (in more ways than one!) Then on the exit of the cornere ease the power back on GRADUALLY - not full on!!!

I drive mine everyday in all kinds of awful weather on all kinds of 'orrid roads and the Z is fine as long as you respect the power from the rear wheels. Even in the dry if you boot it full on while going round a roundabout you can get the rear end out quite easily.

Enjoy !

bilky- what you said about fitting TC and insurer refuse to insure, it just shows how stupid some insurers can be because surely most of the Z's written off in this country would be because of people losing the back end and crashing

This is a sore subject for me as I lost the back end of mine whilst negotiating a tight 90deg right hander. Thing is, I have taken the same corner in the wet 100x's before and the same happens - back end out slightly - corrective steering and throttle responses and bing!, one big grin across ones face until this one.

The back end drifted out by ~45deg whilst going fwd, corrective action again but then, 'snap' the back end swung other way and forced me straight into a brick wall (now I can hear some sniggering!).

I now have two years experience of driving my zed in all sorts of weather, (although mostly dry) have practised 'drifting' to a point were I was actually quite good at it.

So the morale is (I suppose), even if your good at drifting don't get too confident as this will lead to you getting into trouble.

Just my thought anyway!.

Have fun!!

Traction control...... depends how you look at it. If you use it to drive flat out all the time etc and be lazy then maybe its not the best idea in the world - however, some of the stories above would have happened to me if it wasn't for the TC - it saved my car quite a few times... No matter how good you are, hit some diesel and you're in for a bumpy ride... Up to you guyZ though...

CheerZ,

Andy
