1989 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo Targa Manual Z32 65k Miles

Description

This is a JDM specification factory manual car imported into the UK in 2003. Colour is KH2 Dark Grey Metallic with black leather upholstery and grey trim.

The car is a first-class example and has appeared in magazine features twice when pristine examples were required.

The car has had a total of three owners in the UK. The first was the owner of the company that imported it. He owned it for a short period of time. The next owner acquired it after an extensive search and owned the vehicle from 2003 until 2017 when I acquired it.

There is a huge history file with the car documenting all of the work the previous owner had Zedworld to undertake and the work that I have had Powerzed in Bristol to carry out. Both are acknowledged as leaders in maintaining Z32’s.

The car has always been well cared for and never abused. It comes complete with Titanium key, two spare Nissan keys and two alarm fobs.

Reason for sale

Over the last 18 months of ownership I have used the vehicle for business purposes travelling to London from Swansea once a month. The car has been superb, coped admirably and has never once let me down. I am a gentle driver and achieve 20 mpg around town and 28-31 mpg on the motorway.

Powerzed is just off the old Severn Bridge near Bristol so it has suited me well to own this car, improve it and service it with them and at the same time have a car that is stylish, entertaining and when you factor in the depreciation made good business sense.

Unfortunately, my work load is suddenly increasing and it is neither fair nor realistic to expect a 29 year old car to undertake 15,000 miles a year as opposed to 6,000 miles a year.

Sadly, this means that the Zed and another of our classic cars have to go to be replaced with a modern Lexus Hybrid.

The fact that the car has been used so regularly has meant it is in fine fettle and drives more like a 3-year-old car rather than a 30-year-old car. Regular use really does do classic cars the power of good.

Other parts

The car will be supplied with the following items:

Original Targa Roof sun shades x 2

Original Targa Roof stowage bags x 2

(Both of the above are the originals with the car as is the full tool kit)

New Evo Locking Wheel Nuts (Thatcham approved)

Replacement Mongoose 304 Grade Stainless steel exhaust and downpipes

Aftermarket alloy wheels that the car lived on for many years (17”) fitted with Toyo tyres which are flat spotted through storage.

KYB adjustable suspension with lowering springs x 4

OEM UK spec radio cassette and CD player

Sony radio/CD head unit originally supplied with the car by previous owner.

Original copies of all car magazines that it has appeared in

Copy of Nissan 300ZX The Enthusiasts Companion by Ray Hutton

Assortment of various new and reclaimed parts.

Huge detailed history file with all invoices, historical notes, mileage data log

2 x original brochures from 1990 (different versions)

Car Cover plus bag

Condition

I have sought advice from Jim at Powerzed as to what the value of the car is and to assess it since he is renowned as the best service garage for these vehicles in the UK since Jeff at Zedworld retired.

His opinion is that the car alone is worth £8,000 and his assessment is that the car is one of the best examples he works on and with a small effort will make a concourse example.

Having said that the car is in regular use and is nearly 30 years old so is not a brand new perfect car. It can however be described as in fantastic condition.

Interior

The leather interior is original and could do with retrimming to make perfect. (the top of the rear seat is dry through sun damage in Japan and the driver’s seat has minor wear to it. The seats are comfortable and perfectly usable. (the driver’s seat is electric). The wear isn’t dreadful and it is perfectly presentable as it is. The rest of the interior is excellent.

Exterior

Paintwork is excellent with a few minor stone chips and the odd very small age-related mark. There is nothing of concern. There is no corrosion

Underside

There was no corrosion to the underside prior to the application of the underbody treatment and the vehicle has never been welded. During the last MOT the vehicle was in a lot better condition than a five-year-old Jaguar that was prior to it and a three-year-old Vauxhall Astra that was having its first MOT.

Mechanical

Excellent throughout and has been regularly and well maintained by experts with this model. Consequently, it starts, stops and drives as it should do. The timing belt has been replaced regularly but is due to be changed (time) next year.

The car will be serviced and inspected by Powerzed prior to being handed over to the new owner. MOT with no advisories was carried out in March 2018.

Price

£7,995 including all of the spare parts (which alone are worth £700 - £800) and everything listed above. Offered to the forum prior to Autotrader, etc. Loads of pictures available - please ask.

Important Note

Please remember that I was intending to keep this car for a very long time – business use for another 12 months and then retained as a classic car. Unfortunately, due to the success of work this isn’t a viable option. This is why the car is in such a condition and includes all the additional parts.

You will note that the vehicle has a 52 plate. This is due to a DVLA registration error and the vehicle was given a plate associated with when it was first registered in the UK as opposed to when it was manufactured.

Hi - lovely example of a well looked after Zed. But - one question: It appears to be a 52 registration, yet I could have sworn production stopped in 2000. Just a question!

Good luck with the sale!

Hi

It did, you are totally correct. Sorry there is a lot of text to wade through in the write up so you may have missed it. It is a 1989 car which was imported in 2003. The DVLA made an error and registered it the year it was imported not the year it was built, is my understanding.

Another member said they had seen it before with the DVLA. It’s quite a unique feature of the car.

Thanks for asking and the good luck message
