From what I can remeber from talking to Tooley at Billing last year, aside from having a good quality batery, he said that it is very important to have a top notch alternator.

Is this right Tooley?

By the way Aki, haven't heard from you in a while, did you manage to get your clutch sorted? What turned out to be the problem?

Cheers

Cos

Hello Aki,

I'm sure Iain knew somewhere near him to get good quality Bosch batteries.

Vijay

...take your old battery to Sweedish and German, and ask for one about the same size. They do a Bosch 62 amp that fits - slightly smaller - with a 3 year guarantee for about £52. Fitted one to my na just before Christmas.

good luck

Thanks for the replys guys, i was thinking of getting a bosch battery in the first place, but when i phoned euro carparts the said the did'nt do one that fitted the zed i think ill try a few of the places mentioned above.

cos, i have finally had the car sorted and will be picking it up this weekend. the reason the fly wheel didi,nt fit correctly was'nt because the guy fitting did a bad job, my car was previously an auto the owner who had it before had it converted to a manual, from what i now understand the guy doing the conversion may have missmatched parts betwween NA 300zx and a TT 300zx.

to remady this problem spacer has been used to move the starter further away from the flywheel, and now the car starts :)

to any one thinking of converting auto to manual think carefully its not as straight forward as it seems

cheers

...they'll all run shy of a Z.

I just took the old battery in and told them it's out of a nissan, and I want one similar. They dug arround and found one that was about the same size (always safer if it's a tad smaller) and had the terminals in the right place. It took longer to type this reply.

Battery went in no probs, and has been great ever since. AND I've a 3 yr warranty - gotta be a winner.

I don't believe most of the crap you get (with a sharp intake of breath) when you tell them it's a Z. I mean, the old battery was nothing special, most likly cheap Japanese, why should it's replacement be anything special...

good luck

Jack

I went to ATS and the first one they sold me was the wrong way round. When I rang to complain, they found the right one and came straight round to fit it! I think the one they fitted was a Fiamm premium. £68.95.

Lots of cranking speed - or amps or whatever they keep in there. Don't think it's ever been more keen to start!

ive got an optima battery i strongly recommend it, with 1000 cranking amps if money is no object. £279 you will not beat it.:)

Aki, Bosch 3 year warranty £40 all in,phone me if you want one;)

what kind of optima battery is it, i got a price for the orange top optima for £116.32, its got a cold cranking amp of of 700A. is yours a yellow top?

when i spoke to the local nissan dealer he told the stamderd battery has a CCA of 582A and during normal running is 65A.

Mac did you get the text message i sent you yesterday? ill give you a call on the weekend.

Aki

I had one fitted by Kwik fit a while back - they check their charts etc. But the guy didn't find it that easy to fit! It's awkward to get out. But it was the same size - works well! I think I paid around the £60 mark.

So what about a pair of Hawker SBS60's wired in parallel. Would provide a capacity of 102AH, about 500A for 2 minutes are less affected by cold than std lead/acid batteries. £35 each incl. postage at :- http://www.bullnet.co.uk/shops/test/batterie.htm

Specs: http://www.hawker.invensys.com/product/content/pdf/product17.pdf

Not sure whether the charging cycle would be right from a std car system though .... any thoughts ?

Dont want to upset anyone but why pay £279 for a battery that serves no other purpose than to start the car. I'm no expert but surely the amps rating is a bit irrelevant, the starter motor will only draw the current required, determineted by load i.e. the resistance of the engine. (Thinks)Suppose if the car's modded and the comprression ratios are high it might draw more current.

Not strictly true nowdays with the amount of in-car audio & electronics. I've had about 3 std batteries die on my previous cars & I'd imagine it's down to the amount of ICE I've had in them.

Gonna definitely go for an Optima next time.

In case anyone is interested, just went down my local Motaquip (helpful couple of geezers who know their sh1t) and got a Platinum battery for £31 + VAT. 70AH, 570CCA with a 2 year guarantee. Was interesting to note that they can also supply one with a 4 year guarantee. I was tempted because I thought it would be better, but matey checked and informed me it was an identical battery, but with a National rather than a local return policy, difference would have been about another £15.

I just got an Optima Red top battery 146.90

Starting: SAE 1050CA/830CCA

after the dilema i have had with my battery over the last two days this had better not go over 5 years lol.

Get some Gold terminals, helps and looks good!:D :D

(any excuse for a pic;) )

Cud be Ivor Bigone syndrome or maybes if your parked a lot a long time with the bum warmers going and a kilowatt of sound consuming yer amps you will really need a big one!

where can i get decent connectors ect?

my new Profec -E01 destroyed a 4 month old battery in 2 weeks flat :(
