Ok when the heck did the prices on Supra`s accelerate so fast and far above zeds?? really surprised to see some actually changing hands upwards of £18k not just for sale actually selling??? one on now at £25k !! I get it they always seemed to sell for more, and not taking anything from them, great car, and very easily tuned, but still the early one`s are like 25 years old now, thoughts??

I had a genuine MK1 GS300 Sport in Black with the 10" rears and that engine in it and I still regret selling it, I cant find one that has not been messed with for love or money so have given up even looking. It was one of the smoothest rides. They go for very little money these days and in my opinion look great you get noticed. More VIP car than boy racer. No need to speed.

I had a late model VVTi TT Supra (98 plate IIRC) - I just found it underwhelming and not as soulful as the 92 J-Spec 300 ZX TT I had. I remember doing ride outs with the Evo lot in the early 2000s - the Zed ALWAYS drew more looks and nods that the Supra did. Many a furrowed brow and respectful nods when they tried to pull away on the motorway...TBH I would not compare the Mark IV (started production in 92) with the Z32 (kind of peaked by 92) as they are from different eras, even though their dates overlap. Mark III and Z32 are much more comparable (with the Z32 still being better).

That said the Mark IV was INSANELY tuneable - just remove the restricter ring from the exhaust and you have 400BHP, along with ceramic turbo fins flying out of your exhaust. :w00t:

The mkIII and Z32 are totally different eras. The MkIV was toyota's answer to the Z32, they even delayed its launch for further development after Nissan's launch of the Z32.

Z32 ran from 89-2000

MkIV ran from 92-2002

They were direct competitors in every media outlet and I've always found them very comparable cars to drive, with which one is "better" coming down to personal preference.

Yup - the Mk3 Supra was in competition with the Z31.... And pretty much bettered it in every way; which was not surprising, considering the time of the cars' conceptions.

Z32 took the world by storm, for a Japanese performance car - hence as Dave says, Toyota went back to the drawing board and totally re-developed the Supra mk4 in order to compete with the Z32!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I'v owned pretty much much all cars mentioned accepted celica's & MR2. The 3000GT/GTO I've had were all Twin Turbo & Manuals, nice looking car but felt heavy to drive. It may have been down to fact they were 4WD. That I would have no knowledge off. Being a Huge 300ZX fan, I still have to say, the UK Supra Twin Turbo is! Blows the rest of the others away. If you had few more notes to spend then obviousness choice is the NSX.

I wouldn't pay £20k for a Zed personally. I think £10-15k max for any of the Japanese supercar-like models, barring the NSX. Not checked prices recently but isn't £25k into NSX territory? There's no comparison between the two cars as far as I'm concerned.

I do like the MkIV Supra, the 2JZ engine is superb, but definately prefer the Mk3 or the A60 models. As a comparison to the Z32 you only need to look at Joel's pics to see which has aged better, inside and out .

A lot of the Japanese cars which are holding and climbing in value are ones related to movies, such as models from The Fast & Furious mentioned above and the AE86 from Initial D for example. I guess a lot of the earlier Gran Turismo poster cars too... the Supra & Skyline fit into that catagory amongst others.

One car I've never understood which has always held its value is the later version of the S14 180SX. I've always been fond of these but last time I checked a few years ago the earlier models were around £3-4k but the later ones closer to £10k.....

Dont know why people think the z32 is not worth the same amount of money as other jap cars in the same range and just take a look at its wee brother the 200sx.

£40-80k for an NSX these days

My housemate paid £10k for his R32 GTR a few years back, it would now easily fetch £25k. (he's done nothing to it to add value).

I don't believe the Zed isn't in the same range as the rest (Supra, GTO, RX7 etc) they should all be worth roughly the same by rights. I love my Zed but don't think any car in that group is worth £20k+ (excluding your Zed, my personal favourite in the club and I don't even like SWB's!!). The NSX is and was on launch a higher lever car than the others.

The S15 has never dipped below £10k from what I remember. I see the S14 has gone up in value though! Probably due to the majority being driven into the ground by the drifting community.

I suppose Japanese cars in general should be going up in value, due to badge snobbery against them lowering as time goes on (similar to what happened with Fords for example), so I guess we should probably accept the higher values!
