Mines under the nose, but I only relocated because I was shaving the engine bay.

I think it may prolong the life of a S1 PTU by taking it away from heat a little. That being said my S1 PTU was working fine when I replaced it with a S2 one which is in the stock location. But so many people have no faith in a S1 PTU I thought I'd get rid of it.

Not really worth the trouble unless you going for a full under bonnet de-clutter.

The above being said, cars that have has the engine bay decluttered can look real smart though

I really wouldn’t get to pent up about it. Think logically, it can sit in some alcove in the nose cone or directly behind a gurt big fan. How many Z32s are driving around after 25+ years with series 1 PTUs in the stock location.

The ptu failures is not from external heat but from internal heat caused by poor connections at the connectors, this increases the current draw through the unit and hence the internal silver solder melts.
