I don't want to put too much of a dampener on things but had to share this.

I spoke to a friend of mine yesterday who's husband is a mechanic for a team that races a mini (Craig, it's the team that got us into Silverstone last year - you met them all).

Their driver was killed in an accident at Silverstone on Saturday. Bad enough in itself but death occurred due to his neck breaking at the moment of impact : only 100 mph and into a tyre wall.

Have a think about this the next time you're doing silly speeds - tyre walls have a fair bit of give and 100 mph really isn't that quick ...

I know a mini won't have the strength or the front end impact absorbance of a Z but in a side on impact there'd be nothing in it when it comes to the shock imposed on the spinal column.

The driver leaves a wife and children.

Take it easy.

Dave

Yeah, really sorry to hear about that Dave.

Something that all of us who are down to get track time at Trax later this year should bear in mind. We are going there to have some fun, lets not try anything silly. We aren't racing, just tracking.

Sorry to hear the bad news pal,

All my best to familly and thos involved.

Take care.

Nico
