For the plenum I've used Frost's Ali Clean - Aluminium Castings Cleaner which is specifically designed for castings

that can't be polished as the blackening which results discolours the semi porous surface. Worked on with a brush

and then carefully washed off with water. The plenum will come up bright and clean.

Clean i would just use brake clean/degreaser, maybe some wire wool or you could wire wheel it. I would take it off though if you wire wheel to not scuff other things.

I wouldn't use wire wool under the bonnet unless your removing the plenum and doing it away from the car...... Then making sure all the debris is cleaned off of the parts before refitting.....

You would get bits of steel wool everywhere that would rust and get in absolutely everything.....

This would be a nightmare to get rid of......

Sorry to jump on this thread but to save starting a new one, can anyone offer advice on cleaning the inside of the plenum? Mines been off for over 2 years and I'm sure stuff will have found it's way in there

Do you by any chance have any pics of the bits you've cleaned with this stuff?
