Hi Guys,

I was driving home last night when all off a sudden my full beam came on and i relized that all of my dash lights were not working. The only thing on the dash was the blue full beam "icon".

So i puled over and found that whenever i switch my low beam lights on, nothing happens. When i switch to possion 2 (headlights) the full beam comes on, i have no dashboard lights(cant see the cluster) and my rear tail lights do not work.

The brakes, hazards, indicators and door lights are all ok and i can "flash" people with the lights off.

I have searched all of the 300ZX forums i know about and found it to be the "clearlens illumination" fuse. (in car, top row, 3rd from left). I changed this and switched the lights on, it blew the fuse stright away. So i tried again and it just keeps blowing them.

What could it be? I have disconnected my Stereo, Amp and Bass Tube to make sure it was nothing like that but i cannot for the life in me find whats causing the fuse to blow as soon as i switch on the lights. It does this both with the ignition on OR off.

Any help would be highly appreciated, i need to drive my 300 at night, i work all day long and dont get to drive it :-(

Hope someone can help.

Thanks

Ben

Hi Ben, You must have a fault that is blowing the fuse either a dip bulb or connection shorting it could also be on the side lights / clearance light circuit, try disconnecting the rear lights at the lights alert module located behind one of the rear light assemblies if it still blows more likely to be a problem with a front circuit try the front side lights in the fog light assembly and the wiring too.

Incidently the main beam coming on when the fuse you mentioned blows is usual not sure if this was Nissans way ensuring you had some form of lighting on when the low beam circuit failed or just an odd wiring querk.

Hope that helps

I tried messing around with the wires and stuff last night but to no joy.

However, yesterday afternoon i unplugged the rear light/indicator clusters and tried the fuse again. It worked! so i thought that one of the bulbs or connectors must be bad.

I played around and plugged them back in only to find that on the way home afterwork, it blew again.

Having sorted it out yesterday by unpluggin the rear clusters i thought that i must have some sort of short or something in their. I must have spent about 4 hours facking about it and still i cant get the fuse to stop blowing.

One thing i have realized is that my left indicator is not working (when the fuse is blown) and i remember that before this gremlin decided to move into my car the left indicator always used to flash fast as if one of the bulbs was blown or broken.

Now last night i replaced every bulb i could find apart from the reverse lights and the center brake light.

I have my doubts about the front left side of the car causing the poblems and need to get it up on a ramp to have a look around.

What do you guys think?

Cheers

Ben,

I suspect you're very close to the problem.

You need to get a tester out and check the circuits on each of the rear bulb circuits. One of them is almost certainly earthing. If it's not then you probably have two of the circuits connected. The one with the dodgy indicator would be the sensible place to start looking.

Dave

Yeah,

i will have a check tonight and see what i can find.

Cheers

Ben
