Sure, drain it through the drain port, and fill with (good) 75w90 with a hose through the fill port until it starts pouring back out (make sure car is level).

I've done mine twice, here is what I learned.

Pitfall number 1!!!

Make sure you can get the fill port open, before, you drain the oil.

The first time I had a mate and a length of hose, I filled it from above the engine bay with the hose threaded down to the box.

The second time I bought an awesome pump from halfords, made by laser, just pumped it in. This is the better way by far

I used redline MT90 and it was fine, perhaps slightly better feeling after the change, but not some sort of miracle oil like people say it is.

More recently I have used normal oil to OE spec, plus a tube of slick 50 molybdenum toothpaste stuff squirted in. That definitely made the box softer on gear changes.

Less like sticking my hand into an office fan

I also once had a choice of 3 oils for my MX5, normal, a bit racey, extremely racey. I bought the fancy racing stuff. It was very thin and did not do my gearbox any good at all. Olive oil would have been better.

Don't most people change gearbox oil in an attempt to save a dying gearbox??? It probably had problems before they changed it.

It's just a simple wet sump system as I understand it. It's not like you'd introduce air locks or anything. Auto boxes are different (not an expert).

It may be stiff and metalic sounding for 10 gearchanges as it splashes about for the first time.

I just checked the nissan manual. To be fair, it only gives an interval for MT oil if you're towing a trailer or driving in desert conditions, for which it reccomends every 24'000 miles.

But driving the car at 30 years of age and with more power etc, is also an unusal driving condition. If you double the nissan service interval, it isn't unreasonable to change it at 50'000 and 100'000.

It only gives aditional advice if you have a trans oil cooler, which is to avoid air locks in the external pipework.

The only thing you would disturb is debris, which you dont want in there anyway. I think it will be a good thing to do. Imo.

Its always a good idea to maintain your engine and gearbox and doing a gearbox oil change is a good thing when done right. If you are unsure about the process then get a good garage to do it.

They must have no clue what they are doing.

If you change oil with new stuff, your box doesn't get worse, not in the 10 or so I've ever done, thye always feel much better.

Redline MT90 and molyslip in my last zed and it was like a new box.
