A few of you will know how much I recently spent on my Z making it look the biz.

Well a week before Christmas after only having it back about 3 weeks the auto box has gone tits up and only gives me 1st & 2nd gears and third slips so much it's like it's not in gear.

Maybe it's had enough of 400+bhp for a year and then standing for 9 months with no use.

I'm fed up and have no cash for a rebuild or manual conversion which I was going to do ready for future engine mods.

What's the cheapest effective rebuild or manual conversion (with clutch for 450+bhp) that anyone has had and where from?

Boo hoo!

You love 'em when they're running good and hate 'em when they're running sh1t!! Sorry to hear that mate. I reckon your best bet would be to find a Z being broken and stick with the auto box.

This has got to be the cheapest option.

Someone on here must be able to help you out. Good luck.

Thats the price to pay for Auto's unfortunatly.

Auto drivers say that manuals have to buy clutches every 60,000 miles or so, and when you have more power the stock clutch doesnt last. Autos unfortunatly the who box goes and costs thousands :(

Sorry to hear it Chris. I think a manual conversion may be the cheapest.

Ohhh, If you can actually feel the slipping of a gear then its bad. I would not even consider using a second hand unit if you are pushing 400hp. On a stock Z - maybe? You need to rebuild and UPGRADE if you want reliability with a Z auto box with that power.

I would speak to AndyZ about locating a crash damaged donor car (manual) to do a conversion. I believe SE have done a number of these conversions. You might want to speak to them about prices. A decent auto box rebuild and upgrade with new TC etc will cost a good £1500 for a proper upgrade job.

Andy

Yeah-would be good to upgrade but you said money was tight. I have been looking for a manual box and assoc. parts for conversion for some time now, but without much luck! (just to cheer you up a bit)

I've also got a water leak (pint a day) and bad oil leak on the engine so I'm even tempted to do a complete engine and gearbox swap but have no cash for quite a while.

At least it looks flash on my drive... :(

Really Sorry to Hear that Chris, especially after the amount of money you spent on it to make it look the dogs _____.

And also being without your car so long and only having the please to drive it again for a month or so.

But at the end of the day it looks the nuts mate so you can stil stand proud. anyway you don;t need to get into thrid when your cruising around on a saturday night checking out the honeys :D

You shoulda fixed the important bits before you did the shiny bits !! :D

This is very true but I could live with putting a bit of water in every few days and topping up the oil once a month as it's not my daily driver.

The box was fine before it was stood for months.

The only problem I had was last winter when it was slow to change up for the first mile when freezing cold in the morning.

The engine runs superb and is as smooth as anything.

It's never given me any problems but I can't find the bloody water leak and I think the engine might have to come out to fix them both anyway.

I presume now would be the time to fix these bits if the box has to come off anyway?

Sorry to hear your bad news Chris,

Your looks absolutely superb!

Thats the trouble with cars generally, when you think everything is fine then something goes wrong and normally costs a bleedin' fortune.

Anyway hope everything works out for you soon.

"life's a bitch and then you die!"

F.T.

There you go Chris!!!

Wild Turkey is selling his TT manual for £1500 because it has a shagged engine and he's fed up with it.

Buy that car - do the conversion and then sell the remaining parts. If you work it right you could have a manual conversion for free!

Gutted for ya matey.

I paid 1200 squids for my soft rebuild at AGS in Watford.

If I'd had the green at the time I would've/should've gone for the fast road rebuild that Le Big Mac had done on his at SE.

I couldn't believe how sharp and precise his changes (and I've driven the Red Stillen polaris missile so I comment with experience) compared to mine.

Chin up old man! ;)

yeh...chin up for the uppercut!

if ya ever need a shoulder, you no where i am.

im gutted for ya !

you have 1 of the best zeds in the country and after all u spent this is the last thing ya need.

Hey Steve, how about I have all your new bits for free and I let you drive it? LOL

Maybe we should set up a car share scheme as nobody can afford to run a top Z on their own no matter what they earn! LMAO

My Z is available for hire - weddings, funerals, burnouts... :D

mine is sold! to that jaypc chappy
