Hi

There seem to be a lot of Zeds for sale in the autotrader etc with 58-60K miles, from traders.

I've emailed and asked about whether they've had the 60k service, and none have - what chances do you reckon I have of them throwing the service in? I gather it's a biggie. I'm avoiding everything at the moment without a service history.

Has anyone had experience of this sort of thing? Any good stories with dealers?

Cheers

Pete

My advice to you would be to get the service done yourself, then you know it has been done properly, you can get a cambelt kit from courtesey nissan and other associated pieces like PCV valves fuel filter etc.

Or the people you buy the car from can go to bodgit and leggit and get the service book stamped.

Get a quote from a nissan dealer and use this as negotiating leverage, to bring the price down!

Good plan, you reckon they'd budge by £600-£1000 (correct me if I'm way wrong) on a five grand car though?

I suppose it would be good piece of mind, and any faults discovered by the (independent) mechanics would hopefully be covered by warranty. Maybe a bit optimistic?

Cheers mate

Have a look in the for sale section, I think TonyC was selling his for 5ish, you are really better getting your car from someone off this forum.

They usually look after em:rolleyes:

One garage has agreed to throw in the 60K service for free. They even commented on how expensive it would be!

Could mean they are desperate to sell it I suppose, well I'm going to view it on Saturday anyway so fingers crossed...

Hi Pete,

I presume it is a japanese car you are buying, check the list of year of manufacture from Andy P's website, and the buying guide.

Stipulate you want the 60k service done at a Nissan garage and ask to see the bill afterwards.

Some times also they put a bodykit on them to hide accident damage!

Ask to see the mileage import slip from Japan, given to all cars imported after 1999!

It ain't all bad honest!

Pete,

A garage selling for £5K will have bought for about £3K in all probability and will try to find a sucker, if you wave cash at them you should get the best part of a grand off. (I know a couple of used car dealers and thy have an absolute hoot ripping of people who don't haggle enough)

Best way to pay for it is to get a cheap personal loan if poss, if your bank won't play try Northern Roack, they are very good, about 7.9% I think. If you are "credit dirty" you're only option may be finance, but remember the seller will get a HUGE commission on this, so again expect to negotiate a heavy discount on the car, remember they are not doing you any favours, whatever they say!!

On a last note, re. servicing, most Nissan dealers and almost all independent garages will ot have a clue on correct £60K service and will probably do the car more harm than good, get a bigger discount and take the car yourself to a ZX specialist!!

Thanks for the advice mate - good help there!

I've just got an agreement with the AA and will be a cash-customer tomorrow - woohoo!

Now I feel I've got bargaining power!

Re the 60k service - if they do it themselves it'll only cost them parts so I might not get much off without the service - but I'll try.

Plus I can buy privately now so I won't look at this car with the rosy eyed view I might have done otherwise.

Cheers mate

If I was buying now I'd buy one and do a 60k service anyway. That way you know for sure its done - the engines on these cars don't like snapped belts. Also, if they do the 60k they may only do the cambelt. Other parts that should be replaced around then are:-

Water pump

2 rubber water hoses from heads

Cambet Tensioner (should always fit new tensioner with new belt anyway)

Fuel filter

Air filters

PCV valves

Thermostat (worth doing while you're at it)

Chances are the auxiliary belts will be ready for replacement

Check the aircon gas level - does it blow seriously cold? If not get them to recharge it for you FOC

Throttle bodies will need cleaning probably

Oil change and filter

Brake fluid will be ready for a flush

There's more I can't think of right now....

The list is long, yes, but you can buy all the parts to do the above (except the aircon) for about £400 all in from http://www.courtesyparts.com

Find someone nice who'll do the work for you and you should have a reliable car for about £600 on top of the buying price ;) This DOES NOT mean go out and find a dog and expect that with this work it will be fine again. £600 spent now will save you a FORTUNE in the future ;)
