Chaps

Hoping you can help/advise.

When I turn my side lights on without the key in the ignition, the sidelight come on fine. However, when I turn the ignition on or start the car and then turn the side lights on the n/s headlight comes on as well with the sidelights. When I put the headlights on then the o/s headlight comes on. I initially thought it may be an earth issue but don't think it can be as if it was then the issue would be there all the time regardless of having the key in the ignition.

The car has an after market hid kit fitted and I have tried a normal bulb to see if this would solve the issue but the problem is still there.

Any help appreciated

Car is uk spec 93

Thanks

As your car is a UK model, it will have a feature called dim-dip.

By this I mean that without the ignition on, both side lights only will illuminate.

However, when you then turn the ignition to the on position, both projector lights should illuminate, albeit at a reduced voltage. (6v)

When you then put the main low beam lights on, (again with the ignition on) both should be at 12v. (noticeably brighter)

So, having had similar issues myself, I would start with the green Dim-Dip module/box behind the passenger wheel liner just adjacent to the wing indicator lense.

Mine was heavily corroded to say the least.

I have a thread on how I fixed mine somewhere, I'll dig it out.

Finally managed to have a look at this yesterday - the wires going up to the green box in the inner wing are all ok and plug is fine so I can rule this out. Any other suggestions chaps on what to look for or where the problem may be?

Thanks

You mention a hid light kit is fitted, so any spurious wiring about the place and check inside the pod itself.

Problems like what you explain sound specific to your vehicle and is what somebody as caused, slash bodged.
