Bit of an OTT reaction! It was only 45 mins since you posted the initial question. :D

Tim

i fitted 6x9's in my doors. i cut & rewelded the origional brackets to take them, tho you could make an MDF bracket to take them. also the door cards will obviously need cutting.

its not too bad a job, just needs a little time & patience.

Scottieeeee....

Cant say about the fronts but I did put Kenwood 7X5s in the back with some rubber gasketting and re drilled fixing holes. Much better than the crap that was fitted with gaps all around the speakers. The stock covers etc all fit back on.

I have put 6x9 Alpine in the front doors. I removed the steel speaker plates and attached the speakers to the door cards. I am very pleased with the result. No cutting is needed and I retained the original speaker covers. So it looks stock. And if anyone wants to critise, I know its slight unorthodox but would just like to say you havent heard them so you cant comment too much. As for the back I use some Monitor Audio home hifi speakers. Hidden under the cover on brackets. Sounds very good.

Hi Mark, do you get any rattling from the front speakers at high volume ?. If not I may give this a shot:D

Hi, I actually get none at all, unless I turn it up too much, but then most things rattle then, if you know what I mean. You have to make sure you have enough clearance between the magnet and the window glass when its down, I cant remember how much you have to play with, but it is enough. I fixed the speakers with nice black nuts and bilts, counter sunk heads on the outside. I would challenge anyone not used to Z's to notice they were not original, and only 3 are visible as one is hidden. I would do it again.

I have some active Missions at home, (704a) which really rock, and my car is comparable, but not quite as good obviously, but still good. And using the Monitors in the back means you are not restricted to those stupid 6x4. Sure they take up some boot space but my Z is not used as a runabout anyway.

Can i just ask what the obsession is with putting 6x9's in the front is?

I've never heard them in the front so i don't really know what they're like but i thought it was common knowledge a decent set of components are by far the best way to go even tho they're a touch expensive.

Not like u need the bass a 6x9 gives as its easier to have a sub in the boot than the hassle of cutting/welding or whatevers involved.

Just my 2p, not havin a go or nothin! :p

Hi Guys,

what i did with mine is quite unique i suppose.

I made a box type thing that sits on top of the removable platic things behind the seats (2 seater). so that one peice sits on top with upto four 6" x 9". Then just join a peice of wood to the front and back of it and it is almost enclosed. Then all you need to do i carpet it in whatever colour you want.

Sounds confusing i know but i will get some pics of it and show you. I was a bit lazy and left some spaces in it but if i had some more time i would close these and make the box totally enclosed.

I will post the pics tomorrow. the whole thing without speakers cost me BD/-15 which is about 25 quid.

So we could say that 6" x 9" in the rear is easy, and they sound a hell of a lot better that those silly 6" x 4" ones that you can get. If you can find any that is.

Thanks

Ben

I first wanted to replace the fronts with same size, but when I saw how big the rears were I thought I needed something bigger in the front, and as it was very easy thats OK. I only thought of putting the Monitors in the boot because I had them in the loft, so that too was easy. AND I HATE monster subs that drown everything else. which is not saying they all do, but an awful lot do. No offence intended.

Phoned up Bob from Safe and sound.....

he says to make up a bracket for the front door usinf MDF to keep the spacing correct .....

Maybe i will do it after all

I'm sure i have the templates i can send you if you want.

Local Sextons fvcked the job right up so I had to finish it myself.

Jay

Cheers very much

but do i not use the plate as the outer back ground ... the 1 i take of the door ?

and when i get the new speakers they come with a template already on ?

was told to use 14mm MDF for brackets

thanx Scottieeeee

They're pretty much the same as the ones you take off although you'll have to mod them a bit for all the wires, 14mm is far too big IMO. You really want 6mm otherwise the speaker will foul on the door cards.

Jay

Although if Bob told you that, then 14mm will be fine. I'm sure he's done more than I have :D;)

Ta very much for u r help ....

i went & bought the speakers today .......

I will try cramming them into the doors tomorrow

Thanx

Scottieeeeeee...............

I modified the front pods to take 6inch full sound speakers, sound wicked.

next im going to put some 7*5's in the rear and possibly a 10 inch sub in the boot or an 8 inch clarion amp and sub under passenger seat.

Put the speakers in using MDF ... i caopied part of the allimium bracket that was already there .... then i used the template from the peaker. I used MDF thinner than 14mm. everything fitted but fowled window when fully down . Just cut another template from speaker and bolted this to speaker then to MDF which is prob about 14mm. The speaker went in fine .. maybe a bit tight around the bottom where the inner panel joins, but not enough to make me worry

Thanks for all your help

It is now starting to get the Beats to go with the performance

Scottieeeeee.......

p.s. Cheers very much for gonna lend me templates jay .... very much appreciated .....

Well I do a little audio work and I made speaker pods or panels rather. rounded the edges and covered them in nagahide. Sounds good but I recomend that you put some kind of sound dampener inside the door the sound is so much better and it also cuts on the road noise!:)
