The time has come, unfortunately, to say goodbye to my precious Zed :( (can't fit three children in the back...)

Not having been on here for a few years now, I'm rather out of touch with the current Zed market prices and wonder what people's honest opinions are on how much I should be asking? Realise you can't say much without seeing it in the flesh, but any guidance would be appreciated.

The car is a 1993 UK LWB Manual Twin Turbo.

Notable features: genuine '99 spec' front bumper and rear lights, fibreglass replica '99 spec' rear spoiler, polished OEM wheels, Mongoose quad exit cat back exhaust, black 'tweed' interior in excellent condition, original blinds and storage bags for the targas, original 3 keys (titanium, black and red), removable tow bar (be that positive or negative! - only ever been used to tow very small trailers). MOTed till Sept'17. Full service history covering the 8 1/2 years I have owned the car, partial history prior to that.

Issues: The car was written off in 2011 (category D) due to damage caused by both a front and rear shunt (incredibly frustrating ordeal as the repair quote was within the valuation of the car, but the repair had to be less than 3/4 of the value of the car for the insurers to not write it off). The car was bought back from the insurers, the damage all fully repaired by Zedworld and the car put back on the road.

Some signs of rust starting to show on the sills.

I'd say £2500-4000 though its up to the buyer to decide if the write off is a dealbreaker. Looks nice to me.

Rusty sills

Im not sure on Value, but personally I would say the rust to be a far bigger deal than the Cat D Status, although I accept that a lot of uninformed buyers will be put off by a Cat D.

Looks nice though! And I've never heard of a zed towbar!

Thank you. The tow bar was custom made for me by Watling

Cat D is not a write off. When a vehicle is damaged and the cost of repair approaches half the vehicle value, an insurance company will chose to not repair and buy the car at an agreed price. It then gets sold to a salvage dealer and given a Cat D category. This then ends the insurance companies responsibility as sometimes when a vehicle is stripped for repair, unforseen damage can become apparent which makes it uneconomical to continue. I had this happen with a VW Passat estate after being T boned, initially it went into the main dealer for repair and was later told that other damage had been found and that they would make me an offer for the vehicle. A more severe category is Cat C which to be honest you should avoid.

Hi Phil, long time no speak !!

Car still looking fab buddy, just to answer your question and echo others above, the Cat D status on any car of a certain age, especially when the repair was done such a long time ago is by the by, yes not everyone understands what it means but simply put a scratched or dented bonnet with no other damage on the car can be Cat D, a stolen with keys and recovered with zero damage can be Cat D.

Get looking at general prices on ebay, piston heads, Gumtree not the £10k+ hopers but the £3K to £7k ones and see how they compare to your own in mileage, condition and spec, you maybe pleased to see yours is top end + or reality around the middle, your call on how soon you want to move it on, high priced zeds, well any cars of a certain age that presently jumping on the " is a modern classic " just hang around unsold till the price comes down to a sensible level.

Have the best of luck selling bud and enjoy what you can with her until it moves on to a new owner.
