Finally managed to get my Z running properly... :)

Unfortunately my brakes were very spongy today, only drove it about a mile and by the end i could press the pedal to the floor and the thing was hardly sloing down...

What's this likely to be?

I think ill try and bleed the system tomorrow but how do i go about this?

What brake fluid?

By the way it's all standard stuff.

Thanks

Bloomin heck that was quick! Dare i say it like your mobile?

Nah those red ones are always pretty slow!! :p

Hopefully ur right Mac.

But you got to ask yourself, why you got air in the system?

broken pipe?master cyl seal gone?

I had the same, it was air in the system caused by a knackered master cylinder.

It could be a lot of things though. Mine went on A13 though at 70mph heh

How should i check for a leaky master cylinder?

I'll have a look round/under/all over the car to see if there any actual leaks but somehow i don't feel it will be easy to spot.

Is it possible to put in a new master cylinder yourself or is that just stupid talk... It looks well hard! :(

Ok first pump the brakes a few times very hard, then wipe around the master cylinder with a paper towel:rolleyes:

Is the level going down when you pump the brakes?

Fitting a new master cylinder is actually pretty easy, as is replacing the pistons provided in a repair kit. All the bits are unusually easy to get to. The tricky part is bleeding the system becuase due to a pretty dumb design it is VERY easy to get air trapped in the master cylinder itself. However, if you follow the instructions and try to fill it with fluif BEFORE putting it back on the car it is certainly a lot easier.

Thanks, ill have a good play around with it after i've had my breakfast and played a game of warcraft :D

I can't actually pump the breaks hard as its very easy to get the pedal to the floor, thats how easy it is. Also when i checked yesterday it didnt look like the fluid level was goin down.

Cheers to y'all. :)

I got a lot of bubble at top of my resovoir, someone said you may be able to see bubbles appears as you pump the breaks as well if its the master

I must say i did notice they odd bubble in the resevoir!

It is very easy to get air trapped in the master cylinder and because the front of it is higher than the back (where the resovoir is attached) it tends to stay there. I reckon that by raising the back of the car a bit, say about 6-8 inches, it would help in letting the air rise up through into the resovoir, as you pump the brakes. Even so, you will still need to bleed the system to make sure there's no trapped air in the lines/calipers.

Erm, can I change the theory a little??? If there is fluid in the system, and it isn't leaking, it COULD be leaking mastercylinder seals and the piston is just pushing past the fluid in the cylinder - the pedal moves but doesn't pump fluid. Check around in the wheel arches and make sure no brake pistons are leaking or any lines are leaking...

HTH

CheerZ,

Andy

Just had a play...

The brake pedal can easily be press all the way down so obviously a fair amount to fluid has been lost.

When the brakes are continuously being pumped bubbles are coming out and up to the top of the resevoir.

Nackered Master brake cylinder?

If so ill get one on order quick!

I just got the repair kit and it was dead easy to fit. Mike Feeney has them in stock usually.
