Hey Gents,

I have stripped my rear shocks and the dust boots have all but disappeared, where could I get new ones from or can anyone measure there's and I can maybe

get one from another car?

Featured Replies

Have you checked the shocks are any good? reason I mention that is the numerous rear shocks we changed over the years that were worn out also had disintegrated rubber boots, its a time thing of course and in most cases it was possible to call the state of the shocks by the state of the rubber boots.

Hi Jeff, well i took the spring off the shocks and i have forced the shock down as quick and as hard as possible

And you can feel the resistance of the oil in the shock, there uk tt shocks with the damping sensor on top

Not sure if i have tested them properly though

Well maybe, a good shock with want to expand to its longest length with quite some force required to compress, it and should be smooth and progressive and when released pop straight back up.

To clarify the shocks are gas filled and the oil section is to aid cooling of the shock, as the shocks form an essential part of the rear suspension anything lacking shock wise will have a distinct effect. Loose feeling at the rear of the car similar to when the hicas is worn is one and bouncing another, can be observed by looking in the door mirrors while driving and see the excessive bounce.

Mmmm, sounds like mine are somewhat past their best. Mind you, they are 24 years old.

Can they be refurbished?

Doubt refurb would be cost effective even if the could be, if you want to stay with genuine Nissan units you have the choice of fitting Jap spec non electric one`s for less money and this is by far the most common way forward, the chance is you have never activated the electric adjustment anyway as Nissan did not fit an additional switch on UK models unlike US models.

The price of genuine Nissan shocks has shot up over the past 4 or 5 years, once around £35 each they are more like £135 each now for Jap spec and £230 each for UK spec, after market one`s are another option and likely less expensive than genuine Nissan.
