What does it mean - 4 wheel stearing alignment?...

According to the gargage I just went to they will only check the spec and adjust the toe-in if necessary. The camber is all extra work, not part of the adjustment.

Is this normal?

They were very angry beacuse it already took them twice as long as normal and flipped when I asked (yes, only asked) for the measurements... well, why not?

Happy happy people... that's what I like....

we charge 2hrs labour for checking & adjusting as standard for a 4 wheel alignment on mercs.

we also give a print out of all settings before & after. why they should get upset just coz you asked to see the figures of your car is beyond me :(

Does that include the camber in that price?

Maybe I shouldn't ask, I'll only get wound up!

Anyone else got anything to say?!!!

They claimed it was a days work to do all the work. Nice shop.

like i said, that was on mercs. the camber correction on the zeds reqs a spacer kit to be fitted. not sure how long it would take to do? a few guys on here have done a group buy, someone must know. (cant see it being that bad to do)

Hi Jez

Was this an actual garage or a fast fit centre?

The reason I ask, I used to work in a so called fast fit centre that had facilities to carry out 4 wheel alignment. Unfortunately nobody really knew how to operate the equipment other than do a straight tracking check. Sorry I take that back, they knew how to read the parameters but couldn't grasp the fundamentals of, Camber, Castor or KPI which these machines are more than capable of checking. I once found the workshop foreman being told by a customer what it all meant

I did my training at a dealership that carried out 4 wheel alignment, all dimensions front and rear (Aaaargh :( )and like Paul C says, it's a good 2 hour plus job which I think puts some quick fits off.

The reason for not giving you a print out of the readings.......Hmmm, probably because they're incorrect! And would rather you didn't see them

Now I don't want to tarnish them all with the same brush but I think it's just a case of finding someone who's capable of doing the job.

Nick

It was a small garage with a laser gauge (last time Hi-Q) - they probably all are laser now... not a computer with print outs, just level devices... I think they were reading things correctly... some of the figs were written down for me. The last garage must have lied as my caster was way out - 3deg instead of the range 9 to 10.50 - and it's never been changed.

I now belive there is no point to ever do it again, as most people don't have a clue. Unless I have stearing problems or extreme bad tyre wear, it's just money down the drain....
