thats the prob with imports, you rarely get much history with them. doesnt mean there a bad buy, just try to get it checked over by someone who knows a bit about zeds is the best advise i can give.

where abouts are you?

Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk mate, the zed I am going to look at today is in Norwich in Norfolk.

If it's got MoTs for a few years then there's no reason why it shouldn't have service history. Anyone who would keep old MoTs would keep service records.

If it was me then I would walk away from any Z which does not have history (and for me that means receipts) from when it arrived in the UK.

Don't forget that this is a very quiet time of year for car sales so there will be a lot more choice very soon.

Dave

P.S. As I'm giving my opinion, any dedicated Z owner who can afford the servicing would be able to afford a £150 sill repair. And they'd get the window repaired before putting it up for sale.

Well i have had a look at it and it was ok except for a horrible noise coming from the engine bay.It was like a rattling noise which increased in speed along with the engine speed. We could not ascertain what it was.The guy had 1 MOT for it and a receipt for £4250 which he paid for it in April this year.HPi was clear on the car and it also had a recepit for repair work to the rear, new suspension and ball joint. The only reason i did not buy it is because of the noise from the engine bay.The guy only wants £1800 for it.

:) Oh well, theres allways another, think you did best thing not buying it,you may of had a very expensive bill sooner rather than later, and its good experience for you, just do the same ,take your time, there will soon be another,TONY:D

err....am i missing the point... 1800 and it has a slight rattle?

I expect half the Z's out there have a slight rattle and sell for 3 times that...

It was more than a slight rattle m8.

Hopefully tomorrow i will be looking at another one that has done around 70000 miles and has had an oil change every 3000 miles, since the present owner purchased it.

Good decision Wedge - many on here looked at a dozen plus before getting a good one. Keep the patience up !

Welcome to the ZX bulletin Board, I hope you find a good Z very soon. Not sure where you are located but you are welcome to come and have a look and a spin in mine, as I hardly get chance to use it at the moment!! I am in the Cheshire area.

Glenn

you did well to stay away from that, cos you could be looking at paying over twice what you paid for it in repairs when the rattle turns into a banging noise or something falls off:eek:

cheers and good luck in the search

steve

Cheers for the invite Glenn, if i ever get up to Cheshire I will let you know, I am in sleepy Suffolk :)

No probs m8, give me a shout if you ever come to rainy Cheshire.

Anyone know any other good insurance companies other than Tesco's for imports.

I'm with http://www.lifesure.co.uk, £350 fully comp on classic car insurance. You have to be over 25 years old and your Z has to be over 10, even if it's a Jap they will do it.

Well i am 25 on saturday m8 and the car is an '89 , but i have no no claims bonus unfortunately. :(

Might be worth a try even with no no claims bonus as I didn't have any to use on the Nissan as I have them on my every day car. Hence I hardly get chance to use my ZX these days. Still nice to look at when I go in the garage to get something though :D

My other problem with the classic car quote is that you need to own more than one car which i dont. How old are you by the way.

Good point, and I am also an old bugger which helps (35).

Whilst i am only a whippersnapper in comparison, i will be 25 on Saturday. :D

Happy Birthday for Saturday. I had an XR3I when I was 25 and thought it was the fastest thing on wheels. Until a brand new ZX completley blew me off the road.

I now finally own one but no longer have the bottle to drive it to it's limits!! Oh well, if only I could go back 10 years:p

Your only as old as you feel,(me 44 yr old git goin on 24 at the mo,ha,ha):D :D :D :p

LOL, or as old as the woman you feel!!

:D If i was to feel a woman the age that i feel know,i would last not long!:D :D :D :D :D
