G'Day just got my Z about a month ago (new rears then) But i got a prob with the remote central locking ......

When u deactivate the alrm immob .... something inside the door clicks .. like a solenoid !!!!

The door do not unlock ... if u use the key the central locking operates on the 2 doors !!! like it should ...

i think that the previos owner must have disconnected it as when the engine runs for about 30 secs the same noise comes from the door ..... do toad alarms auto lock doors ? if so how do u disable this feature .......

i am assuming that the solanoid is siply a bar not connected up

Any ideas Much appreciated

To make both doors lock on a Z from the remote you have to add a lock motor to the drivers door (the Z only has one in the pass door as standard), so it sounds like the drivers side motor has packed up, or if it's clicking, is perhaps jammed..

You'll need to take the door trim off and have a look at it, if you need a new one I'd try Bob @ Safe & Sound (he has a forum on here)..

To get the door trim off is a bit of a hassle but roughly (from memory);

Wind the window half down, and from the outside, pop out the little cover piece in the upright at the back of the window, unscrew the single screw (and don't drop it!)

That releases the cover that goes over the rear pillar of the door.

If it's a car with the seatbelt on the door, unbolt the top belt mounting (and bottom, makes things easier later) and dangle.

Pull the rear pillar trim off and remove the two screws that are underneath it.

Peel the felt up from the bottom of the drivers door handle cup, and unscrew the two screws, then lift the switchgear out, switch end first - be careful not to tear the door panel.

That will uncover another screw beneath the panel, remove that.

There are now two screws in the front (hinge) end of the door panel, and three at the back end in the plastic trim around where the belt goes through the panel. Remove all of these.

The door now pops off its remaining retainers - start at the bottom, work your way up the back edge, then 'lift' it off over the window lip.

Hi,

Yes, the Toad auto locks the doors after 30 seconds if you start the engine and don't re-open the doors. (Its a switchable feature)

I don't know how the toad opens the doors....?

I know that the sloenoid is working inside the door ... it gives out a diff clunck when arm ... diarm the system

i think it was disconnected to stop getting locked out of the car .......

i just want it to unlock the doors not open them ......

but i dont want to connect it up .. in the event i hop out of the car close the door and find that i cannot get backj into it again

If you open the doors to get out the alarm should not attempt to lock the doors, so you can't get locked out. Although I have to say, once in the 9 years I've had it, it didn't register I was out the car and locked everything with (the engine running of course) and I had to get the RAC to break in - which took a scary 5 mins so nothing was damaged.

Jez.

I have the same alarm fitted and it is supposed to lock the doors after starting the engine, the solenoid operates the door mechanism via a metal rod linkage, I watched the guy installing my alarm and he had to adjust this linkage several times before it worked properly every time, I suspect your linkage requires a slight adjustment. Toad guarantee should cover this I think if you cant sort it yourself.

Sounds like a problem I just had (for the second time). The door lock/unlock is cable operated (standard). When remote is fitted, you install a motor(solenoid) to pull/push the door lock mechanism. So when you plip the remote it disarms and fires the solenoid to unlock.

If this solenoid becomes disconnected from the door lock mechanism, you still hear the clunk but it appears to do nothing.

Last year, this happened when I was inside the car. The door stopped working and I had to climb across to the passenger side to get our. Cause was a broken door lock cable.

Happened again a few weeks ago and I called a local bloke out who pointed out that the original fitter had simply clamped the solenoid fixing point onto the door cable. And after a few thousand repeats of being wiggled back and forth, it fatigued and broke.

What the fitter should have done was make up a bracket to link the solenoid directly to the door lock rather than bolting it to the cable.

Perhaps this is what has happened to yours?

Can u stop the alarm from doing this ?

it aint good if u start the car up ... to let it warm ... r to check somefin underneath the hood

Sounds like you've got the same alarm as me.

Mine doesn't auto lock when the engine is turned on but when the engine is turned off the doors make a sound like they lock and then unlock again.

Mine also auto-arms when the engine has been off after about 20 secs hate this feature and am trying to find the control box so I can turn it off.

If it is leaking the water will come ion and lie in the footwell

i know because the heater matrix blew on my 5 turbo .......

the only way to get the foam and carpet dried properly is to strip out the interior .......

foam took 3 days lying over boiler to dry ... there is no way u could dry it in the car ..... the floor would rot away before this would happen

Dried out the interior now and blocked off the heater matrix so no more water runs through it.

Having it replaced at the end of Jan:D :D

It's just freezing whenever i go in there now:mad:

If you don`t want the toad alarm to lock the doors when you get in, start the car with the door open, then close the door and drive off, if the alarm has been fitted properly the doors will not lock.
