Since I acquired my Z the HRW has not worked...fuse is good and power to the window is there...closer inspection indicates that ALL of the elements are damaged/broken!

What are my options....other than claiming a replacement on my insurance?

I've looked at the repair kits...but I would be looking at repairing 20 elements and don't think the end result would be acceptable.... aesthetically

Im not sure if can buy complete stick-on replacments, but sounds like a possibility.

Another option would be a complete tailgate replacement. I know that sounds very drastic, but they often come up 2nd hand on breakers for not a lot and are relatively straight forward to replace if you got one in the same colour as yours. I did it once as a way to change spoilers without having to get painted.

The annoying thing is that he just got a respray. Is it hard to transplant just the glass?

Good point. I just remembered replacing a club members rear window in the past because it suddently shattered one day from the HRW getting stuck on and overheated on a cold day :scared:. I recall the top trim being very fragile though. Window fitters will do a removal and fitting service without having to supply new glass.

Am I right in thinking that the UK rear window heating elements are 'in' the glass as opposed to surface mounted on JDM cars?

If that were the case perhaps sourcing a UK tail gate and replacing the glass may be an option...the Blue tint glass ...instead of Bronze shouldn't be an issue if the glass had a darker tint applied.....

Conductive silver paint. Mask the gaps with tape, it worked ok for me, although I think I only had one or two breaks.

Rear heated windows are the same on all Z32s. The glass is not too difficult to transplant if done professionally. I've had my rear screen removed 3 times now. The top trim can be reused, but you'll need to get the fasteners cut through (on the inside). The lower seal however goes hard and is always worth replacing as they shrink.

On the subject of the top trim, how tightly should it seal? There's a lot of flex in mine when you press on it.

They're rigid, so they don't really 'seal', they're merely a trim panel.
