Posted October 25, 20168 yr My car has become a daily driver and I need something that does better mpg and something newer and cheaper to maintain. Anybody that has read my cars thread or has sold an an 300ZX- How much do you reckon I could get?
October 25, 20168 yr I can't remember if it's a manual or not, but nas these days sell for 1-2k unless they are immaculate imo. 1.5-2.5k for manuals Sad to see it go Ben Edited October 25, 20168 yr by Alic
October 25, 20168 yr Author It's a manual. I don't wanna part with it but it has become a daily driver, money's tight, wanna eventually save for a place too. My insurance has gon up too due to second job. Of ideal and will keep it if all I get is 1k

Of ideal and will keep it if all I get is 1k That puts you closer to 2k then, did you fix all the rust?, I remember there are dents in the bodywork. Are they any other mechanical mishaps wrong with it then? If you clean it up really well, and rip that chrome strip stuff off, you may get £2500, but who knows, it's worth whatever a buyer is willing to pay.
October 25, 20168 yr Author I haven't got to the rust yet. Not got the money which is why it needs to go. The rust is there but not rotten. Yeah there's a few body faults and most of that stuff the previous owner put on is gone. That just needs cleaning up. I have done 4K worth of repairs to the car. Battery relocation, clutch, timing belt, gates power steering belt, water pump, Powersteering pump, brake calipers have been overhauled, front droplinks, targa seals. Bonnet supports, door catch and lock repairs, polybushed front anti roll bar and steering rack, front strut mounts changed. Z1 fucas changed but due to polybush defect they supplied bearing bushes to replace- although they are not fitted yet. I have various parts that will be supplied with the car, Everything that has been done since I owned the car is documented with receipts and there is some paperwork from before the clock says 56800 miles too

I hope you can get back what you can and I'll let others cast their opinion now.
October 25, 20168 yr Author I know I have. I know I am never making my money back and that was never the idea. I just didn't plan on things getting so tight with money. I used to be able to do overtime etc but that's hard with 2 jobs and the second job is voluntary, but has a chance of turning into my future career. I am happy in spending that money in the sense I have saved it from the scrap heap in the sky. When I got it drove then died was unreliable etc, over 2 years I have now got it driving reliably and nicely. Just run out of time and funds and don't have the luxury of having a second car or even a garage

October 25, 20168 yr Author Honestly drove well and looked a bit tatty when I got it thought, few maintenance bits and bodywork I'd be on my way and it surprised me a couple of months later. What isn't the cheapest away around things either is I don't go cheap on parts. If there is not a quality aftermarket part I want I will buy oem and the bolts that mount it will all be oem etc. So what I have done has been to the highest quality I could. But the end game is it costs twice as much. I will say a lemon is a strong name for this car considering if the only reason more isn't done is the cost of parts and there was nothing catastrophically wrong with it. Just lots of little bits due to it being parked up for 5 or more years before I bought it. This car has never had engine problems or driveline problems and the only problems it had had were from neglect until I came along and picked up all the pieces
October 25, 20168 yr Author In addition to that the only suspension issues it has had were bushes and also brakes was old fluid and bad seals. All things to expect on a 18 year old car
October 25, 20168 yr Sounds like youve done good maintenance work to it mate, should be a reliable base for the new owner to start with. Non turbos seem to be holding recent money at the minute tbh. Edited October 25, 20168 yr by TheRealStig

October 25, 20168 yr Hi Ben, sorry to hear your selling up bud, I was enjoying your build thread. if you have to sell didn't you mention that your mechanic that did your timing belt comment that he'd be interested in adding it to his collection?? Just a thought but he may still be interested:thumbup1:
October 25, 20168 yr Author Glad someone was haha. I really don't wanna sell haha. But with the cost of parts, fuel and insurance. It's all got too much. This definitely isn't a daily driver haha which it has become. Good shout Ritchie thanks. I will ask him soon. What made me write this thread is someone has been asking for my car for 2 years but won't pay anything sensible. But recently offered to swap his 5 series for it. I left him my number to contact me and discuss but he hasn't yet.so was weighing up options for it there's something wrong with his or it falls through. The reason if the car is in reasonable order is it is much easier to sell than the z and may be able to ask for a higher price; which in turn would pay for a good condition daily. Thanks and will try that avenue as I know he will look after it
