Posted October 17, 20168 yr Hi guys, as my spare wheel will no longer clear my brakes, I've decided to put my battery in the wheel well, I've searched in here and found some info. regarding using welding cable, My question is Would this cable be suitable?? Welding Cable / Battery Live 230 Amp 25 mm Red Flexible Per Meter Mig Tig Arc Welder https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00E0YVNFS/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_awd_x_5hjbyb64BF49K Do I need 5m of both black and red? Is it ok to run the cable along where the HICAS pipes used to run ?? Thanks
October 17, 20168 yr i fitted my bat in the boot using welding cable also fit a mega fuse on the battery side so if it shorts out the mega fuse will blow so you dont have a live cable earthing out and start a fire i ran the cable on the inside of the car
October 17, 20168 yr I think that cable will do. I would run it inside the car either along the sill or tranny tunnel as outside it may get hit by a rock and ground to the body or something. What is a low profile place people put theirs without being too much in the way? I know some people just put a box in the boot and I think thats an illogical solution. Would it be wise to cut a hole in the boot floor to sink it down flush with the floor and then weld a box around the bottom of the battery? What is people's advice?
October 17, 20168 yr Hmmn interesting Richie. Will follow with interest. As I have the same predicament with the spare wheel just being extra weight now.
October 17, 20168 yr Keep it were it is Richie. No need to move it and use your wheel well for storage mate.
October 17, 20168 yr i used 0 gauge cca cable , like what u get in car audio kits ran it down pass side , put big inline fuse, 0 gauge short ground about 30cm long to the chassis, no problems so far been in a year
October 17, 20168 yr Author Thanks for the help guys, so we reckon the cable in the link is suitable?? Do I need 5 metres of both black and red? I was going to insulate them and run them down the HICAS pipe metal trunking? Gaz, I'm interested in tidying up the engine bay, I want it as clutter free as possible, also the batteries over the years have started to corrode both the undertray and the strut tower, so I'm at it as we speak with a wire brush and then will be treating the area with Loctite Rust Remedy. Now that the engine is out and I've no time constraints to finish it quickly, I feel the best thing to do is tidy up everything as best I can.:thumbup1: I should have done a before pic as it was crusted with rust:thumbdown:
October 17, 20168 yr No worries Rich and yes give the battery area a good clean and make it as rust free as possible.
