Just trying to figure a few things out,

It seems I preferred my car when it was an auto, circa 7 months ago I had it converted to Manual, the whole shooting match, stage 3 clutch, light fly, single Prop, the works, and yes it made the car feel different, im just not feeling it now,and im finding it extremely hard to launch properley, Ill only ever use the car for general driving and dragstrip runs now and then.

So, do I get shot of the manual conversion and return it to Auto, ? thing is I want a reliable box that will be comfortable with 450 BHP and 490 Lbs / ft torque. Is this achievable ?

Or do I go to plan B and flog the car and buy and Evo with 4 wheel drive, I understand that Evo's are just as quick as the 300 ZX

Thoughts please gents as I need to do something , but not sure what.

I imagine that your criteria are very different from mine, as I love the power my Zed has but, ultimately, it's the looks that got me hooked initially.

I can respect the power, tuneability and engineering of an Evo, but I'd never consider getting one over a Zed because I think they're quite an ugly car...

I had a beast of an Evo 8 from '07-'11, 400 odd bhp, it was quite hard on the back and the kids found it sickening in the back seat. I loved the performance of it, you just point and shoot, very snappy acceleration but I couldn't go anywhere too far or I'd have to pull in for the young lad to be sick. The Z has a more refined ride, not as harsh. It will invariably come down to your age and what you want out of it. There's a guy here in town that got one of the last of the STI Hawkeye Impreza's around the time I had the Evo, he's still driving it but I personally think he looks a tad too old (ridiculous) for one now.

Here's a couple of not so great pics of my one (pulled from my for sale ad)

For an auto box, the two are mutually exclusive.

Have you considered a Racelogic traction control with launch control?

I believe he has it when I read his other thread. He says he got too much wheelspin even with it, which was partly shoddy tires, and partly he said it was him flooring it after the clutch released so the max torque overcame the grip in that gear. So he needs practice imo. Getting an evo will not magically make you run 12s.

I think you need to make your mind up between a reliable weekend driver and trying to get quick drag times.

I have a Nistune board fitted which allows the throttle to be planted on the floor at standstill and the revs will rise to x RPM , I guess its more of a tool to build boost , rather than to control wheelspin, I would try Racelogic if I can get one, ?. Or maybe sell up and go for the Evo. I really dont know what to do at present.

Did you know it's still visible at your house on Google Maps? I spotted that when I was giving my da directions down to you that time.

okay , so what Evo do I go for ? and what is my 300 worth ?, it has a forged engine, rebuilt upgraded blowers, Selin intake, Na rear end, EBC and Turbo Timer, UK clocks, leather interior, Stage 3 clutch, single prop, 740 CC injectors, custom map, Methanol injection, single piece prop, etc etc etc,

If you're just after drag times, I think you should just practice launches for a while before looking at other options because as mentioned above, new car doesn't mean perfect runs. So you'll either get your Z launch to work, or you'll have more experience and knowledge launching for when you transition to a different car

I've seen 100bhp cars that can't get out the 12s. Yes of course you need to practice it's no different to the race track. Drag racing looks simple enough but the reality is far different it takes time. Of course the Evo will be an easier car to launch as it's 4x4 but as everyone above suggests it's not a looker (and I own a 7 so am happy to make the point). As a general rule the Evo will beat the 300ZX in all departments apart from looks.

If you're desperate to go fast and you have deep pockets you can make me an offer on the Evo :)

I would never sell the zed at (virtually) any price lol

Thanks Bob, I would love to !, I suspect I could not even get near the value of that car !, where would I get racelogic control from ?, although I think if I could get the right money for the Z I would most likely let it go.

It isn't cheap but it's very high maintenance and costs a fortune to keep running (hence why it sits in the garage a lot).

Personally I wouldn't bother with launch control. Racelogic is brilliant when it's working right but I only really used it in the wet and never for launch. The zed is more fun learning on the strip IMO and I just think you need to get the runs in. You can use drag radials but that's another layer of difficulty. But well worth it when the times start to come down. Perhaps a nice set of R888's will be a decent compromise.

That's all IMO of course.

Anyone know where I could get race logic from ? Is the system Nissan 300 specific ?

Race logic traction control has been discontinued so you just have to get lucky on eBay and the like.. one came up roughly 8 months ago and I nabbed it as soon as I saw it.

Racelogic no longer make the RLTC system. You can get them s/h on eBay occasionally (in fact there is one up now). RLTC's

are generic units and you need the 4/6 injector unit for the 300ZX.

How fast do you want to go? You can always go faster if you pay. Say you buy the Evo and aren't much faster? What you need is practice and to enjoy yourself.
