Picked up my first 300zx this afternoon! A Japanese import twin turbo automatic with 86,000 miles on the clock, driven her home, around a 40 min trip and all well so far! Having got her back I've noticed a few things , I can't seem to adjust the fan speed for some reason when it's coming out of the dashboard vents, I get a yellow power light flash at me on startup and I don't appear to have any dial backlighting. When nearly home I'd did open her up a couple of times (couldn't resist!) and I think I caused a minor coolant leak from the radiator area which has stopped now the car has cooled and seems to be holding coolant when I popped off to the shops in it earlier, very happy with the car and come what may I'm going to do my best to keep her running as she should, any advice on the electrical niggles ?

Many thanks

Will

it may just be water from from the over flow tank was the leak on the near side front bumper ?

Richard had a leaking when hot issue with a faulty rad cap.

Fan speed I'm guessing is the electric version. The system is a bit stupid. There is high, low and off pretty much, so if clicking the toggle on low doesn't slow it down then I don't know.

The power light is from the gearbox, you can click the switch next to the gear stick into at/t, hold or power.

Power light flashing at start up is telling you there is a fault code stored in the auto box ecu link below shows you how to read this, it could be an old code and disconnecting the battery for an hour will reset it.

Codes

All 10 flashes the same = No error codes detected.

1st flash longer than others = Revolution sensor is shorted or disconnected.

2nd flash longer than others = Speed sensor circuit is shorted or disconnected.

3rd flash longer than others = Throttle sensor circuit is shorted or disconnected.

4th flash longer than others = Shift solenoid "A" circuit is shorted or disconnected

5th flash longer than others = Shift solenoid "B" circuit is shorted or disconnected

6th flash longer than others = Overrun clutch solenoid circuit is shorted or disconnected

7th flash longer than others = Lock-up solenoid circuit is shorted or disconnected

8th flash longer than others = Fluid temperature sensor is disconnected or A/T control unit power source circuit is damaged.

9th flash longer than others = Engine revolution signal circuit is shorted or disconnected

10th flash longer than others = Line pressure solenoid circuit is shorted or disconnected

All the same with no long start flash = Battery low, been disconnected, or control unit has just been reconnected.

It was hard to say to be honest more centrally , I'll be giving it a proper investigation tomorrow!

As for the lack of instrument lights that was just me being an idiot! They work but were too dim to be seen properly in daylight!

Make sure the dimmer switch is not on low setting.
