I've bought a Zed thats had a light(wish) front knock and is now suffering from a starting issue. Basically its starts for a few seconds and then stutters and cuts out, the engine seems ok when it is running so, I suspect that its a vacuum issue or something along those lines. While investigating I noticed that the recirc valves have been removed and capped on the inlet pipes but, there are still open pipes on both sides coming from the tubs in front of the rad. Could this be the cause of the issue? The car was an insurance write-off so maybe its been raided and the after markets BOVs have been removed.

This pic might explain it better...DSC06847 copy.jpg

Yes been raided as you mention, try unplugging the air flow meter and start it up then, it should run and stay running as it is ignoring air leaks, sometimes issues will stop this working however.

Bristol based Zed with starting issues... this is familiar :whistling:

✔️ SWB                   ✔️ Twin Turbo
✔️ Manual               ✔️ Slick-top
✔️ Seat belts mounted in the correct places...

Thanks Jeff, I'll give that a go. I assume that blocking them off isn't an option then?

For testing you could blank them off, not to drive though with no way of releasing the boost when the throttles closed, bad for the old girl! disconnecting the afm is just a quick test to prove the issue is the massive air leak.

Thanks Jeff, I'll go down the AFM root.

What happens if the boost can't escape then?

Your turbo spins backwards of stalls/flutters. It's felt that this isnt very good for them.
