This is a nightmare - I need insurance - just got back from Honeymoon to find Admiral have cancelled my policy - gits, and now I'm having a real struggle to get my import insured.....No-one wants to touch it or want about £2500 which is stupid. Apparently things went pear shaped due to some Impreza's having their wheels fall off (Adrian Flux) swines. I got one quote off coversure for £840 but they didnt ask if it was an import and so the covernote was wrong - but Prestige have quoted £777 but I have to have Cat 1 and I've only got Cat 2! Bob - how much for a cheap Cat 1 system?

I think I need to sell it and get a UK spec one. It seemed much easier to do this last year, nobody wants to touch them now.....

Bilky,

I believe a company called Firebond are the daddies for this kind of thing - you need to phone them tho dont use there internet site.

Just do a Forum search for firebond

Does this mean that Admiral are bailing out of import insurance - that could be a bummer ...

Firebond seem to be keen on low mileage "modern classic" insurance which don't help those of us who only have one car and use it. frown.gif

No, I think Admiral is still doing them, although I wonder if they didnt know mine was an import.....They thught I didnt want to pay for my insurance...I was out of the country for 2 weeks and for the week before that we had a big postal problem.

Firebond have insured me for £442.56....

...Wonder how much it will cost to have the Z insured... biggrin.gif

Seriously tho' they asked me if it was an import and I told them it was a UK spec (which it is) and the guy said "I'm glad you said that" So maybe they are looking at only covering UK cars....???

Let me know how you get on if you go thru' them.

Matty.

Try A-Plan's specialist vehicle division on 0845 0711234

They insured my import for £860.00 last year.

Renewal due in a few weeks.

I'm 30 with 10 points, a previous ban and it includes business use.

I do have a CAT1 alarm though...

Well, Firebond couldnt do it for less than £1000, RAC wouldnt touch it, neither would OPI.....Privilige would though - and where more than happy to do it! They said they specialise in imports so it made no difference...Got a quote for £550 so I'm well pleased!!!

I have been trying to keep a list of insurers that deal with imports. This is what I have come up with over the past couple of years. We ought to keep this sort of stuff in the reference section. I'm sure the formatting is going to get screwed when I paste it in but here goes :-

JESUS HARRY S CHRIST!

I have always gone on my fathers insurance and have ZERO no claims bonus.

So I input these details on the Tesco site:

1990 TT Manual

Isle of Wight Postcode

ZERO NCD

30 Years of age

£1054 Fully Comprehesive.

Marvellous

Get on down there before they change their underwriters!!! smile.gif

(£604 with 5 years NCD)

Bargain

And £320 TPFT and no legal protection.

Blimey charlie.

Glen

Just ran my details through Tesco and it came out as £640, which is about £90 more than I paid through Admirial last October. However, Tesco don't ask whether it's an import, couldn't find my car from the registration number and then the car description didn't actually say 300z Twin Turbo - therefore, lots of opportunity for hiking the price once they confirm the quote.

Hate to say this but i pay £320.00 fully comp and protected, maybe it's because no one really steals cars in the Isle of Man, think you should forget group buys and do a group move to I.O.M instead, Smithy

JESUS ! ! ! ! With Tesco I could have saved £450 ! ! ! When I got my insurance last year, my best quote was £1400 TPFT (after calling around 30 companies). Tesco wasn't one of them however... and I've just found out I could get fully comprehensive cover for £950 ! ! ! It's too late to change now as there's only 3 months left to run. God damnit, I'm not a happy bunny ! GRRRRR

(oh yeah...and the most ludicrous quote back then was for 3.5k fully comp)
