For those of you with Imports - has anyone sorted their insurance out online and not had the option - ie on those pulldown menus - to "admit" to having an import? Does that mean you have to phone? Or that they dont care :D ?!

Also - don't you just hate it when you spend your lunch hour filling out page after page of details, then it says "Sorry we cannot quote over the internet, please phone us on...." I hate that  , then we you do phone, they want all the same info AGAIN!

Rant over,

Pete

Make sure you phone if in any doubt, if you don't and you want to claim, the company concerned will almost definately try to wriggle out of paying on non-disclosure or mis-description grounds!!

I would phone the company to make sure they know it's an import. Also declare anything that is not standard on the car.

If you miss any minor detail then your insurance is not valid. Which can not only loose you loads of money if you have an accident, it can also lead to a jail sentance.

If you phone the insurance company and tell them all your details, make sure you get a reference for the call. All calls that insurance companies receive are recorded. They tell you that it's for training purposes but it is a legal requirement for all new policies. Also when you get your cover note/insurance certificate, it is worth checking that all details of your car including mods and Import details are on there.

If you do an online quote and you say 300ZX they will presume that it is UK spec because th 300ZX is called the Fairlady in Japan.

A few people have had premiums increased and policies canceled a few months later when they found the car is an import.

My Insurance company "Bell Direct" will insure you at the same price, however the only difference is you are not eligible for a courtesy car if you are involved in an accident.

Cheers people,

Another insurance query - I got 3 point on my licence a while back, which is fine. But a few months ago I got another ticket - the local station wrote the points on my licence, but I wrote a humble letter of apology and my licence was never forwarded to the DVLA. Hence 6 points physically written on my licence but only "officially" 3. What do you guys suggest I declare?

Just thought as I am writing this - I could put my licence through the wash and pay for another!

The reason I wrote the letter was that it was only a couple of mph over the limit (ridiculously close), and I was so dismayed at been flashed cos after the first one I'm constantly looking at my speedo!

Cheers

Cheers I'll add this one to my "list" - just tried TSB, their quote was half Tesco's!

Did you phone TSB or online quote. I think their online quote system it wrong, besides always getting an error when I try it, its over half the price of everything.

As for the licence, you have 6 points, makes no difference what it says on it, it what it says on the computer system. By dad's got over 20 points if you look at it that way. If you send off for a new licence it will be one of the picture ones.

No I mean it says 6 on the license but DVLA system has only 3.

Got a photocard one anyway...

Might try to fid a job where car insurance is provided ;)

Cheers

I would send off for a new license saying that you lost the old one. Hopefully when it comes back three points will be missing.

You may be lucky and the police may not have forwarded your info onto the DVLA.
