cant agree more - sadly thought this was going to be a post to help others not fall foul of bad practice but it turned into a joke - suppose I have to take my chance when having my car mapped in the next few weeks - not really great if people are aware of issues - you cant feel that strongly if you sit back and allow these people to possibly damage cars while you do nothing - hypercritical to me

The thing that's annoying me the most about all of this, apart from what Stephen is saying, is that I don't really know who the hell you're talking about (well I can guess one of them, but it's only a guess). How is this educating people if I can't understand it and then act upon that information? Right now if I wanted a rebuild/remap I could very easily fall into this supposed trap because you're all hiding behind smoke and mirrors!! So what's the point?

Facts or this thread is pointless

There is no little "clique" of people that can and cannot post "what they like". Almost every ban is a result of someone being offensive, not opinionated.

The problem here is not being too scared to post something for fear of being banned, but for fear of being moderated or the thread being removed.

Shouts of "Freedom of speech" and "name and shame" are all well and good for the people that do not have a duty to remain within the law for the publishing of this content.

The moderation team and committee are aware of this legal position that the club must maintain, and have to follow guidelines wherever necessary.

Any derogatory or damaging posting against a business must have some physical or documentary evidence to support it, otherwise it cannot be considered as fact by the club, being the publishing medium of that content, whether the posting member is known or hiding behind anonymity. The posting may be 100% factual and correct, but the club cannot prove that itself.

I am fully aware of how annoying it is for people not to have an accurate rating of suppliers, or a clear "danger list" published of people to avoid, especially when it could cost you a lot of money if you choose the wrong supplier.

A measure of how "reliable/trustworthy/honest" a supplier is could well be their willingness to partake in these type of conversations and argue their point, maintain decorum, discuss the nitty gritty of a customer gripe publicly, rather than immediately revert to a legal position.

Believe me, there are a LOT of cowboys that send a legal letter immediately to try and shut a conversation down, because they genuinely have something to hide and are NOT interested in defending their bad workmanship. Fortunately, we do not get so many of these, but in the past, this happened a lot. A lot of these people went out of business long ago.

There are always 3 sides to every story, "yours, theirs, and the right one", and it is difficult to get the right one without knowing ALL of the facts.

In some cases, you will have to rely on what you read, or revert to private conversations to get more information/opinions.

I assume a lot of what is being said is related to Noel?

I had my car mapped by him around 18 months ago and I haven't had any issues. I have to admit that this thread has made me feel somewhat paranoid!

I have to say, in 20 years of different forums catering to many different things, this place is the mostly strongly policed by far.

Its nice to have a strong police force and is maybe why we are the still the number 1 UK 300zx forum.

the moderation i see is generally when people are offensive, racist or abusive, whether deliberately or drunkenly, for which there is no place for that here.

the bans i see are as a result of the above, or through the outright intent to scam members.

thread clean ups happen at the request of thread starters, or when they go way off topic, or when someone has a legitimate complaint about the content, not just a dislike or disagreement.

i regularly use a few forums, one if which is more heavly moderated, and one with very little.

the latter very often descends into arguments, threats and name calling, like a playground or a rowdy pub. not a good place when that happens.

the former does seem oppressd at times, and is not always a good place either.

i think we have a fairly even keel in that respect, and have the right balance.

you cannot please all the people all the time. but you cannot let it descend into a free for all shithouse either

Please can somebody (Jeff?) send me the full story by email or PM if necessary. My email address is vern936(at)hotmail.com.

If you know the story but are reluctant to send it - my car is in Nottingham at the minute and I would rather know if I should be worried about it.

Who is the mapper and who is their sidekick?

Thread now run its course and a new informative one created, so thread now closed :thumbup1:
