So I am building a sub into the floor of the boot, and am almost at the point of putting the bottom on the box. Now I am wondering if there is any reason not to just fit the sub box sides directly to the boot floor? This would save the weight of the wood, and also create quite a solid base to the box??..

 

Would it cause a log of reverb through the chassis perhaps muddying the bass?

 

Speaker boxes are designed with air volume in mind, ie ported or sealed for efficiency, take a read of the link below, will shed some light on it all :thumbup1:

Thanks for the link, that was actually one of my starting points for this build. So the idea is a sealed box for this as it should have a tighter sound, and this box will have pretty much exactly the right cu/ft air for the speaker. but I am just wondering about sealing it using the floor of the boot as the bottom panel?..

I think the idea is its air tight, so unless you want to make it completely flat and silicone it to the floor, just create a sealed box.

I think you are right the aim is to be air tight with a sealed box, and I don't image i could fix it to the floor in a way that would be totally air tight... sealed box it is :)

Air tight...... best way to build it is floor template, top template, use stand offs to get height and angle, then wrap in stretchy material and fibreglass resin it. Then reinforce the fibreglassed material from the inside layer upon layer, fibreglass outside with a few layers. Fleece blanket works well for the stretchy material..... and cheep to get hold of.....

Sand it and cover with matching carpet to boot area to give the oem look...
